Chapter 3322: Another One
Yugiji was afraid to ask, but he did anyway. "Tulax... No, Guild Master, what is this agreement you talked about?"
Tulax's memories went back to when Rhowilf passed him the task. "As you all know, it is extremely hard for a Divine Demon Tree to have sentient descendants. After all, chances are that the countless seeds they lay will turn into simply trees without any sentience. That's also why Divine Demon Plants are even rarer than Divine Demon Beasts."
He continued. "Yet, Gian succeeded. One of his saplings truly gave birth to a Demon Core, and it would be just a question of time until its sentience awoke. But there was a problem. Gian's position as a Space Time Realm expert is quite precarious. No one would dare to buy a fight with him for no reason. After all, he is that strong. But, at the same time, there are plenty of experts in our continent who want to take his place."
"At the moment, they are all just waiting for Gian to breakthrough into the Divinity Realm. Once that happens, he won't be allowed to stay in the Divine Snow World anymore. But he also holds the best interest of the Demon Plants in our continent in his hands. Once he is gone, the Demon Plants are sure to be left aside by the next representative."
"That's why Gian put so much effort, trying to generate a descendant. He wanted someone who could inherit all his knowledge and take his position. As a Space-Time Realm expert, Gian doesn't need to worry about lifespan anymore. Truth be told, he probably could have reached the Divinity Realm if he wanted, but he has been holding back."
"However, he was also being watched constantly. Would the other Space-Time Realm experts just let another Divine Parasol Tree take its place? If they found out about it, even Gian wouldn't be able to protect the sapling. So, no one could know about it, and that's when he reached the Tamers Guild and made an agreement."
"I'm not privy to the terms of the agreement, but you can be sure it is something very beneficial not only for our Tamers Guild here in Porgue City but to the Tamers Guild in our entire continent as a whole."
Only then did everyone finally understand. No wonder all elders who knew the Parasol Tree was a Divine Demon Tree couldn't talk about it to others. That rule had always been somewhat of a mystery. That's because that Parasol Tree was directly connected to Gian! "What do we do? Can we hide this? At least that will buy us time."
"Hmph!" Tulax knew that was impossible. "Do you think Gian wouldn't have an eye on his only descendant who managed to become a Demon Tree? The moment our guild was attacked, you can be sure he was notified, let alone after the Parasol Tree was kidnapped."
"I don't understand..." Yugiji had many doubts. "I can see why he wanted to hide it, but why prevent it from gaining consciousness?"
"That's something you will need to ask Gian himself," Tulax answered. "Whatever the reason was, that wasn't our problem. Our position in this was to take care of the Divine Parasol Tree for two thousand years, and we were oh so close to doing it... Now it's gone, and our guild here in Porgue City will probably pay for the outcome."
"Why were we selected to take care of that thing anyway?" Someone else asked, feeling helpless. "They could have sent it to the Tamers Guild Headquarters in the capital of the continent."
Tulax didn't need to answer it, as Yugiji could guess the reason. "That's the problem. The headquarters would be too suspicious. They needed a secluded place that no one would pay much attention to. In the end, our guild just so happened to fit all the requirements."
"Exactly," Tulax nodded. "Anyway, we still haven't lost yet. Continue looking for it. Raise the reward tenfold for any information regarding the tree. Regardless of how small it is, I want to know everything. We must find it before Gian comes himself!"
Unaware of the Tamers Guild's predicament, Rean and Zangeshu continued their studies in the Formations Guild. The guild had everything one could want, even private rooms that could be rented for the formations masters to test their formations. Rean paid for one of those and was quite satisfied with the equipment and environment. Sister Orb even guaranteed that the place was safe from prying eyes, showing the guild's commitment to its rules.
They had to wait three days to take the next teleport, so they used that time and the Formations Guild equipment to advance their new CD project. Rean truly felt like making their CD some kind of smartphone from Earth, where he just needed to change the chip, and he would get a new number. In this case, a new Werdlem Energy Signature ID.
By the end of the second day, they had another prototype, now with a function where it could hide one's location from the network. The more Rean and Zangeshu studied the Divine Sense Runes and the Celestial Soul System's abilities of concealment, the better their CDs became.
They even considered if they could make a CD that didn't need the VS devices slotted inside anymore. Instead, it would be a CD that could change its Werdlem Energy Signature without the need for a different Divine Werdlem Stone. Of course, for that to work, they would need to get deeper access to the Werdlem System, so they gave up. It wasn't that they didn't want to, but that it was too risky. Even the Celestial Soul System wasn't able to completely hide its presence back then.
On the third day, the time for their departure was getting close, so Rean and Zangeshu put everything back inside the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm and came out... just to find out that the entire city had been put on lockdown.
"Oh, come on! Not another lockdown..." Rean felt like crying already.
