"Lol, the way it looked to me... It’s like those firing execution squads. But the crucial thing is how many can they kill?" Jin smiled as he quietly saw the scene running through the Magic Eye and everyone was laughing, commenting how ridiculous the Mage Air Squad is compared to the direct disciples of Mex.
The Mage Air Squad were wearing some regular attire set that consisted of a long sleeve shirt, a design which they had never seen before since there was a collar to it which was usually reserved for very formal occasions. Pants with a lot more pockets than they should have as well as boots which once again were different from the regular boots.
Meanwhile, the disciples of Mex were in articles of clothing that had been tailored and made from high level monsters. It boosted their stats and was hardy enough to withstand a heavy slash or two despite it being categorised as light armour. What’s more, was that their weapons were the items that signified their position.
Wara being the Head Disciple of Grand Sage Mex was given the only SS Rank Relics that was available to Ress. Even other countries did not have any SS Ranked Mage Weapon at their disposal. (But if they do, they keep quiet about it.)
So it was nothing to scoff at that was why it felt like it was like night and day to the commoners who were watching it. The Mage Air Squad was given wands that looked odd and old. It was as if they had been battered badly and perhaps to some point rusted, unlike the relics of Mex’s disciples.
That was why when they saw them kneeling and doing their cast, the disciples yawned and put out a fully layered shield to scare them as well as to entertain the commoners, influencing them to bet on their side. After all, if they win the duel, the disciples would be given a small cut as a commission.
So, they believed that they should at the very least entertain the commoners a little for their efforts. After all, this small cut could be quite substantial because it is currently being broadcast to the entire capital city.
"That is so dumb, why are they showing their shield outs for the opponent to see?" Questo said and Hocoin shrugged.
"To lower their confidence level? Or maybe as part of the showcase?" Read new chapters at .com
"No matter what, I am a bit sad that they played their cards wrongly," Jin commented."They literally showed my team their current defence capability." He sighed, sincerely hoping that some of them did not die and that they really lived to the standard of the senior mages.
"FIRE!" Number 4 shouted and everyone released their penetrative magic projectiles. There was a loud sound emitting almost in sync when they shot and the bullets zoomed through the battlefield, instantly breaking layers of shield in a blink of an eye. So much so that there was no time for a few of them to react instantly by moving away.
Wara was the only one able to conjure another set of shields to block it but it broke them through as if it was cutting through sheets of paper. But that was enough for Wara to move away and evade a fatal injury. The bullet was still able to catch her left arm and she was bleeding profusely.
Meanwhile, the lethal damage barrier that protects the disciples broke for four of them and the force was so insane that even though the lethal damage barrier had done its job, it was sufficient to crush the ribcage and render them unable to react back.
Gara, who was the judge, immediately teleported them out of Portal 4 since as promised, once the lethal damage barrier had been broken, they would be out of the duel.
Wara immediately closed the wound with magic despite the shock she received. If possible, she wanted to assess the situation but the First Mage Air Squad was not going to give them any quarters when it came to this duel. They were already rushing out after firing that volley, capitalising on any opportunity that they could seize just as the disciples would have done in a situation like this.
"Trysha! Eini! Put up a rock barrier instead and a windstorm!" Wara shouted and her comrades acknowledged despite being injured from the attack as well. However, before they could conjure, another few shots of that very same penetrative magic bullet came this time, headshots instead of aiming for the heart, causing Trysha and Eini to be out of combat as well.
That was when Wara realised that defensive options were not possible and she instantly released a series of thundermines that she had stored in her SS rank relic. As much as this was a defensive option, it could act offensive as she saw the group racing towards them with a fly spell.
Then again, she commanded another two to cast Flash Thunderbolts, one of the fastest magic available to deter them. To her surprise once more, the group suddenly stopped in their tracks by flying upwards ignoring the thunder mines that had been placed to emerge right in front of them. And the casting of Flash Thunderbolts had missed their targets when they flew and dodged it.
The commoners and even the guild masters could not believe it, the ’trainees’ were moving and reacting faster than they expected. Without any incantation circle seen, they flew off to their targets and even their powered shots had no indication of the incantation circle at all. Wara and her comrades were using whatever relics they had to not just block but also to react to this ongoing onslaught.
The Mage Air Squad was not messing around as well. If they could not achieve their target, they would move to the next step systematically not as an individual but as a group. A senior summoner under Wara had decided to even the odds a little as much as to his regret.
He summoned Lightning Elementals using the Thundermine spells as a base material so that the Thundermine was not wasted when the trainees flew off.
However, the Mage Air Squad did not care about the thunder elementals at all, nor were they intimidated by the lightning elements. Most people and mages were afraid of the lightning elements mainly due to their frightening speed and sound travels.
And that was when the Mage Air Squad finally realised why Jin had been throwing them into such crappy weather for the training. So when they saw the lightning bolts, their body immediately reacted and moved away just a little to evade the attack. They had even better control after removing the weights which was a nice surprise.
Their control of magic got even better now that they felt even more light from removing the weights and their movements got very nimble. Avoiding the thunder elementals and shooting against the mage disciples. ŔἁꞐỖ𐌱ÈȘ
Wara got fed up that another mage had been removed from the equation from the consistent barrage and the fact that not one of the trainees had not gone down was boiling her nerves and at the same time, a feeling that she had never felt for a long time.
Fear.
The Trainees flew up high and shot down from afar while the mage disciples attempted to counterattack by throwing flashy spells like casting a storm of fireballs aiming upwards and that did not deter the mages’ aim at all, causing another mage to die.
That was when one of the mages realised that the strength of the trainees was long distance sniping and decided to do a suicide attack instead. He used all his magic to teleport to them and perform self explosion in hopes that he could kill the rest.
But he never realised that the moment he teleported, all of the mages had their aim at him. Instead of shooting him, every single one of them cast a defensive barrier on himself, causing the explosion to detonate within the barrier, effectively disabling him, and activating the lethal damage barrier. Gara instantly teleported him away and the group left with 3 Mages on their team.
Still, the trainees were relentless with their attacks, using the very same penetrative shots to snipe from afar even though when they were at such a high altitude, the only thing they could see was a dot. Eventually, another two succumbed to the loss of mana because of all the defending they had to do, leaving Wara left.
That was where Number 4 halted the barrage and initiated something more deadly. Pure Explosive Magic Bombardment. Five by Five, they shot in consecutive turns so that the trainees had time to breathe and recover their mana before shooting. Yet, the interval between the shots was less than 5 seconds.
The Thunder Elementals had already dissipated from the initial wave of explosions and Wara had decided to use their sacrifice as a buffer to cast a spell she deemed that it is too deadly for outside use. "Elder Magic: Time Rot!" Wara shouted as she cast the spell, causing time to slow down.
It was different from time dilation and compression since it caused only a specific set of spatial space to slow down.
But even when the trainees were inside the spatial space, they acknowledged the skill and used their own magic to break out from it before proceeding with the bombardment, making it feel that Wara’s magic was ineffective. And the latter reason was not exactly wrong.
They had been exposed to Jin’s time compression magic to such extremes that somehow their body developed some resistance to time magic. Unfortunately, that magic was enough to eat up most of Wara’s remaining mana and her gamble failed. It was to the point where she poured her energy into shooting a red flare out, asking for a timeout.
Number 4 stopped the bombardment and told the Mage Air Squad to slowly descend with their rifles aiming at the target.
"What...what kind of monsters have you made..." Hocoin asked as everyone kept quiet when they saw the conclusion of this duel. It was so fast, practical, and deadly that it somehow felt like Jin had redefined elite combat mages.
