After finishing his meal, Yun Lintian decided to take a stroll through the city, wanting to observe the environment and the people who lived there. As he walked, he noticed something that surprised him – there were mortals living alongside cultivators.
In his previous experiences, mortals were usually relegated to separate towns or villages, their lives untouched by the world of cultivation. But here, in the heart of the Profound Mystery God Realm, mortals and cultivators coexisted, their lives intertwined.
Yun Lintian was curious about this unusual arrangement. He stopped at a food stall, where a middle-aged man was grilling skewers over a charcoal fire. The man’s face was weathered, his hands calloused, but his eyes held a gentle warmth.
“Excuse me,” Yun Lintian said, “I’d like to buy a few skewers.”
“Of course, young sir,” the man replied, his voice hoarse but friendly. “What kind would you like?”

Yun Lintian ordered a variety of skewers, then asked, “I’m curious, how is it that mortals and cultivators live together in this city?”
The man smiled. “Ah, that’s thanks to the Profound Mystery God,” he said. “He set a rule that no one should bully mortals, and that we should be allowed to live our lives in peace. The cultivators here respect his rule, and we’re grateful for his protection.”
Yun Lintian was taken aback. He had expected the Profound Mystery God to be a ruthless and domineering figure, given his association with the God of Darkness. But this act of kindness towards mortals seemed to contradict that image.
“He sounds like a benevolent god,” Yun Lintian said, his curiosity piqued.
The man nodded. “He is,” he said. “He may be powerful, but he cares for the people of this realm. We’re lucky to have him.”
Yun Lintian paid for the skewers and thanked the man. As he walked away, he couldn’t help but ponder the true nature of the Profound Mystery God. Was he a benevolent ruler, as the mortal had described?
“What do you think?” Yun Lintian asked Linlin and Qingqing through a voice transmission.
Qingqing tilted her head and chewed on the meat skewer. “It’s delicious.”
Yun Lintian was speechless and ignored her, waiting for Linlin.
Linlin thought for a moment and said, “It could be true. Maybe he cares about mortals and his subordinates are beyond his control… However, whether he’s good or bad has nothing to do with us. We are here to take everything away.”
Yun Lintian nodded slowly. It wasn’t that he cared about righteousness, but he was simply curious about the Profound Mystery God’s personality, as he didn’t quite believe that he wasn’t aware of the behavior of his subordinates.
He continued to walk around the city. He would try to scan the surroundings from time to time in secret, but he didn’t find any presence of a True God here. It was likely that the Profound Mystery God wasn’t there.
Yun Lintian wandered through the city for a long time, observing the various districts and their inhabitants. He saw bustling marketplaces, serene gardens, and grand training grounds. He also noticed a stark contrast between the opulent areas where cultivators resided and the more humble districts where mortals lived.
Eventually, he found himself in a relatively desolate alleyway. The buildings here were old and worn, the streets narrow and dimly lit. He looked around and realized that this was a community primarily inhabited by mortals.
He briefly observed the mortals, their lives seemingly untouched by the grandeur and power of the cultivation world. They went about their daily routines, their faces etched with the hardships of their lives. Yun Lintian felt a pang of sympathy for them, but he knew he couldn’t linger.
As he prepared to leave the alleyway, he suddenly heard a voice call out, “White Tiger?”
Yun Lintian’s senses immediately heightened. He turned around, his eyes narrowed, and saw an old woman standing at the end of the alley. Her gaze was fixed on Linlin, who was perched on Yun Lintian’s shoulder.
Linlin’s aura was perfectly concealed, and it was impossible for a mortal to perceive her bloodline. Yun Lintian was puzzled. How could this old woman recognize Linlin?
The old woman quickly raised her hands, her palms facing outward, a gesture of peace. “Please, young sir, I mean no harm,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. “I just… I just thought I saw a White Tiger’s descendant.”
Yun Lintian remained silent, his eyes fixed on the old woman, his guard still up.
The old woman continued, her voice filled with a hint of nostalgia. “Many years ago, I met a White Tiger. She was a kind and powerful being, a protector of the weak. I never forgot her.”
Yun Lintian’s suspicion grew. This old woman’s words were intriguing, but he couldn’t afford to let his guard down.
“How do you know about the White Tiger?” he asked, his voice cold and sharp.
The old woman sighed. “I was once a servant in a powerful clan,” she said. “They had a White Tiger as their guardian spirit. I served her for many years, and she treated me with kindness and respect. I learned much from her about the world.”
She paused, her eyes filled with a deep sadness. “But then, the clan was destroyed, and the White Tiger was lost. I never saw her again.”
Yun Lintian’s gaze softened slightly. He could sense the sincerity in the old woman’s voice. He decided to lower his guard, but only slightly.
“And you think my cat is a descendant of that White Tiger?” he asked.
The old woman nodded. “The aura, the presence… it’s unmistakable. I’ve seen it before.”
Linlin remained silent, her eyes fixed on the old woman, her expression unreadable.
Yun Lintian pondered for a moment. He didn’t know whether to believe the old woman’s story, but he decided to play along for now.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“My name is Mei Hua, people call me Granny Mei,” the old woman replied.
“Granny Mei,” Yun Lintian said, “I don’t know if my cat is a descendant of the White Tiger you knew, but I appreciate your kindness. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
Granny Mei smiled, her eyes filled with gratitude. “Thank you, young sir. I don’t need anything. I’m just happy to have seen a glimpse of the past.”
Suddenly, Linlin, who had been silent until now, spoke, her voice clear and sharp. “Granny Mei, you said a White Tiger God was a guardian spirit for mortals. Why would a being of such power choose to serve humans?”
