GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2208 - 2208: Living Corpse.

Gerald was the only one who seemed talking. If anyone was nearby, they would hear him say to Legion, “I know that you’re in a hurry, but I have to ask, are you a lamp bearer?”

Legion replied, “No.”

Gerald insisted, “Swear it on your honor and belief in justice.”

Legion did as was asked, “I swear on my honor and belief in justice that I am not a lamp bearer.”

Then they said with some frustration, “I hope that’s enough.”

Gerald smiled and said, “It is. But we have to wait a while to see if your brand will take effect after you’ve lied.”

“That shouldn’t happen if you are not a lamp bearer. But if you are, I’m afraid that you won’t be able to leave Reinfield alive.”

He was still smiling as he threatened Legion. But Legion wasn’t concerned because they weren’t lamp bearers.

The two of them stood opposite each other and waited for some sort of reaction. They waited like that for five minutes, but nothing happened.

So Gerald said, “It seems you are not a lamp bearer. In that case, I welcome you to the organization of lamp bearers. I will give you the membership key now.”

He said that, but he didn’t seem to do anything. If anyone was looking, they would only see him standing there without doing anything.

But Gerald was indeed doing something. It is just that not many people would be able to see what he was doing after he stopped speaking.

Only telepaths would be able to see that there was a grey ring above Gerald’s head, and Gerald broke off part of that ring with his mind to give to Legion.

The part of the ring that was broken off healed quickly, but the part of the ring that was given to Legion didn’t heal. Actually, the grey fragment looked like it would dissipate soon.

Legion quickly received the grey fragment with their Mental Probe divine ability. Immediately their mind touched the fragment, the fragment began draining their spiritual energy.

They could stop the draining or even throw the grey fragment away, but they didn’t because the drained spiritual energy was being used to grow the fragment.

The grey fragment accepted the spiritual energy and healed until it was fully restored. It became a grey ring that seemed to be made of fluffy grey clouds. The form of the ring was always shifting and changing as if it were unstable.

Legion asked Gerald, “Is part of the body of a god?”

Gerald was surprised again. This time, he was surprised by their knowledge. He didn’t like it at all.

He had been hoping to save this country bumpkin of a telepath and be a hero like the founders of the Mindhunters. But Legion has been stumping him at every turn when he should shine.

He replied grudgingly, “Yes. It is what we use to access the Netherworld and communicate with each other. It is also what we use to find the authority of our pathway.”

The last statement caught Legion off guard. They were surprised, but they asked calmly, “The corpses of gods can be used to find the authority of the pathway?”

Even though they were being calm about it, Gerald caught on onto their ignorance of the subject and latched onto it tightly.

He thought to himself smugly, “He is still a country bumpkin after all.”

Having regained his confidence, he chuckled and said, “You didn’t know? I thought this was common sense.”

Legion fought the urge to attack and crush the man. It was going to be easy to kill him too.

With his inability to read their minds and communicate mentally with them, it meant that he wouldn’t be able to attack them. Meanwhile, they would be able to attack him.

They don’t even think the fight will take a long time. A swift use of Blood Limb, and they would impale the man before gutting him and crushing his body. They didn’t think there was any way the man could last more than one move from them.

The more they thought about it, the more feasible the idea was. But they didn’t want to kill the man because he was too easy to kill and because he held important information.

They thought it would be a loss to kill an ant with valuable information and get into trouble with the authorities of Reinfield City for killing an ant.

So they only growled and said, “Get on with it.”

Gerald coughed and said, “The corpses of gods have once come in contact with the authority of the pathway. That’s how a godclad can become a true god in the first place.”

“So the corpse of true gods remembers the authority. If a large portion of the corpses is gathered together, they might be able to sense the location of the authority. The gathered corpse might even be able to attract the authority of the pathway and resurrect.”

Legion asked, “Has this ever worked?”

Gerald nodded. “It has. After the true god of the pathway of killing was put down with great fare. His corpse was sealed somewhere by the god of justice. But someone stole the corpse and fed it a lot of blood. After the corpse regained some strength, it began rushing towards the location of the authority of killing. This was…”

Legion interrupted him with a question. “What do you mean after the corpse regained some strength? How did it feed on blood? Was it alive in any way?”

Gerald chuckled and asked, “Is divine flesh alive in any way?”

Legion said, “I see.”

Gerald rolled his eyes and explained. “After reaching the level of true god, the body becomes more divine flesh than human. I dare say that it is completely divine flesh. That is probably why the god of killing became mad and went on a killing spree.”

“So anyways, after the god of killing was killed. His souls were shattered and scattered. Even his authority was lost. But his body was still lively.”
