The three of them laughed at their jokes. They were taunting the man and he knew it.
But the man ignored their jab at the rivalry between the telepaths and the lamp bearers and continued.
“Secondly, the name of our organization is Mindhunters. As offensive as that name might sound to you, what we are hunting isn’t your mind or the minds of humans. At least, not primarily. What we are hunting is the authority of the pathway of the telepath.”
“Thirdly, the aim of our organization is to pursue strength and safety together until we ultimately produce our true god. That is why we are hunting the Mind Palace. The Mind Palace being the authority of our pathway.”
“Fourthly, I am Gerald, and I was doing your telepath a favor by introducing him to the organization. If he joins the Mind Hunters, he will be able to get every divine flesh of the pathway from rank 4 to rank 6 easily.”
“I can’t promise about rank 7 divine flesh of the telepaths, but I can state with confidence that we will be of the greatest help in helping him find anything he wants to find in this world because information moves fastest through our organization.”
The three of them looked at each other before they stood up at the same time.
Golden Hammer said, “We need some time to think about this. In the meantime, we want to thank you for taking some time out of your schedule to enlighten us.”
He stretched his hand to shake Gerald. But Gerald didn’t take the hand.
Instead, Gerald grinned and said, “I’m not going to shake your hand so that you can grab me and subdue me.”
Golden Hammer didn’t seem overly concerned that his plan was seen through. He just shrugged and left the restaurant with the others.
The man watched them leave while remaining seated. Eventually he sighed and said, “Too cautious. Telepaths don’t have to live like this.”
He continued sitting for a while, hoping that someone would show up. But no one did after ten minutes.
He decided that he couldn’t wait anymore, so he stood up and left the table. He paid his bills and left the restaurant.
He didn’t sneak out of the restaurant. He walked openly to the road and boarded a carriage. The carriage took him home.
30 minutes later, the carriage reached his house. He dropped down from the carriage but didn’t open the gate and walk into his house. Instead, he waited patiently by the gate.
He didn’t have to wait for long. Another carriage pulled up in front of his house a few seconds later.
A cloaked figure dropped from the carriage and stood opposite Gerald. The two of them were less than three meters apart.
Gerald asked, “Why are you following me?”
The cloaked figure replied, “Why don’t you tell me? After all, you’re the telepath, not me.”
Gerald frowned because he couldn’t do what the figure said, not without attacking them.
There was a strong barrier around the figure that blocked mental probing. He would need his rank 4 divine ability to break this barrier, but it would be tantamount to attacking an unknown being unprovoked.
All he could tell from the time he had met this person was that they were likely to be a man. He could only tell that from the tone of their voice.
He couldn’t tell anything else because he couldn’t read their mind. This was making him frustrated, so he asked in a cold voice, “What do you want?”
A voice rang out in his mind, “Didn’t you want to see me so that I could join the Mindhunters? Well, here I am.”
Gerald was no stranger to mental communication. But he was surprised by the identity of who it is that was communicating mentally with him.
He asked in surprise, “You’re the person helping Golden Hammers?”
Legion asked back, “Why are you surprised? Is it because I am not as weak as you expected?”
Gerald was indeed surprised because Legion seemed powerful enough to threaten him. He can’t tell what rank Legion is, but that is already enough to make him feel threatened. It wasn’t a feeling he expected to experience from a small-time telepath helping rank 3 gang members.
But he didn’t admit his feelings. Instead he smiled and said, “It is a good thing that you are strong. You will be able to achieve better things this way.”
He asked with the smile still plastered all over his face, “Why don’t we go in and have a chat? I’ll introduce everything you need to know over a cup of tea.”
Legion shook his head. “Let’s do what must be done here. From what I can sense, you have what I need to join your organization with you right now.”
Gerald said, “But wouldn’t it be better if we sat and had a good time while I introduced you to the basics?”
Legion still refused. “I am a busy man. I would prefer it if we did everything now.”
Gerald sighed and said, “So be it. You wild telepaths are always in a rush. I hope that when you’ve settled down, you will be able to have the time to enjoy yourself. If you don’t enjoy yourself, how are you going to live your 200 years of life span?”
Legion sneered in disdain when they heard that.
Gerald sounded as if 200 years was a long time to live. It made them look down on him and humans in general.
Their sneer wasn’t visible on their face because they were wearing a black mask. Actually, it wasn’t obvious to anyone that they were communicating with Gerald.
It looked like they were standing there while Gerald did all the talking. It was all because they could use the mental probe to communicate with Gerald, but Gerald couldn’t communicate with them using his mental probe due to the barrier blocking Legion’s mind from external access.
