Once the people know that the most important resources they need will reduce in the future, they will surely complain and protest. So this clash with the people of the town was inevitable.
If he can squash their resistance now, he won’t be attacked by the lamp bearers and the people of his town at the same time. He counts that as successful leadership.
So he sent out more godclads to beat the people up and scatter them. As for the matter of the troublesome traveler, he sent for the only fate weaver in town and gave her the mission to find the traveler at all costs and in less than one day.
So the traveler was being hunted from two sides. She didn’t know this, so she was still blissful. She was injured and bleeding, so not everything about her was blissful currently.
What she did know was that the family members of her comrades were being killed. She also knew that she wasn’t going to stand around and watch while something like that happened.
Her left arm was bleeding. It had been grazed by an arrow in her recent battle, yet it looked like someone had chopped it with a large blade.
The bleeding has slowed down now. If she starts moving again, the bleeding will resume, and the injury might get worse. But she was still determined to do her job and fight for justice.
She didn’t think about what could have been if her dead comrades hadn’t willingly walked into the trap laid out for them.
She didn’t consider that they might be alive now if they had chosen to be sensible, and she didn’t consider that they made a mistake.
If she had considered these things, maybe she would have considered that what she was about to do was a mistake. Unfortunately, she was blinded by justice, and justice doesn’t encourage one to do the smart thing, it encourages people to do the right thing.
The right thing now is to save people regardless of her injury and hope for the best. So she bandaged her arm as best as she could. Then she set off to rescue the family members of the lamp bearers.
She knew the house of many lamp bearers with families, and she was fast, so she was able to catch up to the executioners that Bushwick had sent.
The people of the town were also resisting these executioners, so they were delayed from killing their targets. This gave her the time to intervene in the situation.
When she arrived at a destination, she saw a mob of people resisting Bushwick’s soldiers with pitchforks and makeshift spears. No matter how these people were beaten, they fought back against the soldiers.
She smiled to herself and said, “It seems fate is working in my favor.”
She didn’t waste time at all. She blended with the mob and used them to approach the godclads that she could identify. Then she killed them by poking holes into their brains or slitting their throats.
She prioritized the godclads, but she didn’t mind killing the mortal soldiers that she encountered. She was very fast, so she could spare the time to behead a mortal on her way to kill a godclad.
Killing mortals was very easy for her to do. It wasn’t a bother to her at all.
After killing three godclads and six mortals, the soldiers realized that something was wrong. Their morale fell, and they began to scatter.
Spike chased them down as best as she could. Then she left this location for the next house.
After ten minutes, the mute rank 3 warrior arrived at the battlefield with the rank 1 seer. He saw the bodies of the soldiers of his family, so he inquired about their cause of death.
He already had an inkling of what had occurred when he saw the injuries that had killed the soldiers. The wounds were piercing and slashing.
The wounds caused by slashing were rough and jagged. It was clear that they had been caused by a weapon not suited for slashing.
So he suspected that it was the traveler that killed these people. After getting the information he asked for, he also learned why she killed these soldiers and what the soldiers were doing before they died.
He left with the seer after getting this information. The two of them stumbled on another battlefield where as many as fifteen men had died.
The warrior asked around just to confirm his hypothesis. When he confirmed that she was saving people, he knew where to go to find her.
He sneered and thought to himself, “If I had known that it was this easy to catch you, I wouldn’t have wasted so much of my time.”
He began to look for the information about the location of the house of the lamp bearers that had family members. These locations were the targets that Bushwick had sent soldiers to.
He got a map of the town and began marking out these locations. Then he began working on his plan.
While he was working on a plan to catch the traveler, a godclad came to him and introduced herself as Feya.
Feya was thin. That was her most obvious feature. It is what people would notice first about her.
She was very thin, but she wasn’t sickly. She was wearing a robe that was twice her size, but it didn’t look unfitting for her.
She walked elegantly and spoke with confidence. Her voice was also soothing to the ear. All of these made it so that the warrior didn’t send her away impatiently for interrupting his planning session.
He only glanced at her and gave her the opportunity to speak.
Freya said to him after bowing and introducing herself, “I am a fate weaver. Sir Bushwick sent me to assist you.”
The warrior’s eyes lit up when he heard this. He pointed at the map on the table before him and grunted at her to make herself useful.
