Stop Hypnotizing Me, Villainous Princess!
Chapter 46: The Witch of the EndChapter 46: The Witch of the End
Morning, the Next Day.
Upon waking, Lynn followed the maid Nina to the library at the Augusta Manor.
After acquiring the Relic from Yveste last night, Lynn had spent most of his time fiddling with the prayer ritual described in the original story, hoping to attract the attention of the Witch of the End from ten thousand years later. However, by the middle of the night, he had to reluctantly acknowledge the truth—many of the settings in the original work were either unreasonable or glossed over.
With his limited knowledge of this world’s occultism, replicating the protagonist’s methods was nearly impossible for him. Crucial details, including parts of the Magical Array and materials, were missing. Fortunately, Lynn still remembered the key components, and the prayer was etched into his mind. He only needed to fill in the gaps with the appropriate ritual knowledge.
According to the original story, the process was tedious and complicated but not particularly demanding. As long as one understood the principles and possessed the key tools, even others could potentially achieve it. Of course, the protagonist's success in the original work was due to his protagonist’s aura.
To uncover the principles and structure of the ritual, Lynn decided to head to the library to research relevant information.
On his way, he noticed many of the people he had seen at breakfast the previous day. Upon seeing him, many instinctively made way and nodded in greeting. Perhaps it was the influence of how perfectly he had handled the issue with the Creationist Sect followers.
Lynn, however, was in no mood to engage with them and proceeded directly to the library.
The Augusta Manor was enormous, and the library resembled a small-scale public library, with rows of neatly arranged books on rustic wooden shelves, all cataloged and well-preserved. Using the index, Lynn quickly located a bookshelf and pulled out a noteworthy tome: An Analysis and Applications of Ritual Magic. This book had even been mentioned briefly in the original story, authored by a renowned scholar of the continent. Of course, the author’s fame in the original work stemmed largely from her being a beautiful woman. Readers who knew, knew.
"Mevis Goranst," Lynn murmured, reading the author’s name with a shake of his head. He wondered when he might meet these women who played significant roles in the original story. Their narratives were likely high-value “mines” for him to exploit.
With that thought, Lynn prepared to borrow the book and head to a nearby lounge area. But he froze when he spotted someone sitting in the distance.
It was Afia, and today, for some reason, she appeared in human form, seated at a wooden table and staring at several books with a distressed expression.
Perhaps because she didn’t have a mission today, she had swapped out the black leather outfit he had seen her wear before, donning an exquisite princess dress instead. She looked even more charming and adorable.
Lynn cleared his throat and approached with a greeting. "Good morning, beautiful lady," he said, whistling as he walked over.
Afia’s eyes lit up with a trace of delight upon recognizing him. But then her expression turned tense, and she subconsciously pulled her slender legs back under the table.
Lynn glanced down and noticed she was wearing the princess shoes he had gifted her, snugly encasing her petite feet in white silk stockings.
A look of understanding dawned on his face as his gaze turned meaningful, causing Afia’s face to flush crimson.
“I-it’s just that I put them on by mistake this morning,” she stammered, "I’ll go change them later..."
Before she could finish, Lynn felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Yo, what brings you here?" Turning around, Lynn saw Morris standing with several books in hand.
"Bored. Thought I’d find something to read," Lynn replied.
Morris nodded before glancing at Afia, sprawled miserably on the table. Unable to resist teasing, he remarked, "What’s the matter? Not flaunting those shoes today? Yesterday, you ran around showing them off to everyone, even letting the Princess see them. It’s the first time I’ve seen you like something so much. I wonder who gave them to you."
Hearing this, Lynn drew a sharp breath.
He had originally planned to smooth things over and move on, but Morris had ripped off Afia's last shred of dignity and stomped on it for good measure. This was enough to make her want to flee the planet.
Sure enough, the next moment, Afia’s eyes brimmed with tears as if she were about to cry. You all talk; I’ll just die quietly over here, her expression seemed to say.
Lynn, feeling a twinge of guilt, decided to change the subject. "By the way, why are you two here? Do you have something to do?" he asked Morris.
Morris looked a bit troubled. “We have to return to the Imperial Capital by the end of the year. Her Highness has issued an ultimatum: we must pass the entrance examination for the Saint Roland Royal Academy. So, we’ve been cramming.”
Lynn pondered this. The end of the year meant only one month remained. It seemed he, too, would soon return to the capital, where he would face the storm meant for Evester. If he wanted to escape, that might be the perfect time. Alternatively, he could cozy up to some of the capital’s influential figures and rely on them to rescue him from his plight.
As he contemplated, Morris opened a book and pointed to the dense script of ancient Saint Roland. "Do you know much about the Four Eras? This stuff gives me a headache."
The ancient history of the continent was a required subject for the Royal Academy’s entrance exams. Most people could score over 90%, so Morris and Afia were putting in the effort to keep up.
Lynn glanced at the information and immediately felt overwhelmed. Limited by the era’s constraints, the content was cluttered and rife with errors. Sighing, he pulled up a chair and sat across from Afia.
“The Four Eras,” he began, “as the name implies, there are four of them.”
He explained each in detail:
- Chaos Era: Too far in the past to verify.
- Era of Gods: Gods walked the earth, creating divine nations and guiding primitive humans.
- Era of Holy Wars: Massive conflicts among the gods, some of whom fell, severing many faiths.
- Era of Kings: Post-war, gods vanished, and humans faced a resurgence of ancient demons.
He elaborated on the Saint Roland Empire, the World Tree, and neighboring nations like Tutkhamun and Silensstat Republic, drawing from both historical texts and his understanding of the original narrative.
By the time Lynn returned to his room, it was evening.
Dusk cast the manor’s lawn in shades of dark gold, a somber and majestic sight. It was the perfect time to perform the ritual and attempt to draw the Witch of the End’s gaze.
Having thoroughly studied the book on ritual magic, Lynn felt confident in his understanding of the process. If he successfully contacted the Witch and passed her trial, he could regain his status as an Extraordinary and unlock the system's Divine Factor, paving the way for unparalleled strength.
With fiery determination, Lynn began the ritual.
