Star Odyssey

Chapter 3324: Completion

Nests were truly mysterious items. They did not require any sort of cultivation, and yet they were able to spawn insects. The truth was that not even Yan Gang himself understood how the Nests produced insects; it was more like the bugs simply used him as a vessel to move about. However, the man did not dare to reveal this to True God.

It was likely that this was true of all Nests. The reason why people mistakenly believed themselves to be the masters of their Nest was because the insects that spawned obey them.

However, no one actually knew why the insects obeyed the owners of the Nests. Everyone believed that they could control their Nest, but if people gathered and discussed the matter, they would realize that each of them had a different method of "control."

The insects spawned incredibly quickly, and they completely shattered all conceptions that humans understood about cultivation speed. An individual human needed an incredibly long time to cultivate to the peak powerhouse level, but these insects could be spawned in a very short span of time. This was unfair and a disaster for human civilizations, but this was also in line with the nature of the megaverse: there were mysteries everywhere.

An ordinary human could use technology to destroy planets, or even entire universes while still being an ordinary human who had lived for just a few decades.

On the other hand, the insects came from the Immortal Lord, who was an invincible being. That was why such powerful insects could be produced so quickly by a given Nest. However, the Immortal Lord had personally spent an unimaginably long time developing from a lower life form into an invincible being.

Without the Immortal Lord’s miraculous abilities, there would be no insects at all. In a way, the Immortal Lord was similar to technology for ordinary humans; it was the power to move mountains and fill seas. The technology of regular humans had advanced so much in just a few decades that their progress had surpassed thousands of years of progress for ancient civilizations. It was a qualitative leap.

For cultivators, humans pursued the level of peak powerhouses. Then, they would be able to give birth to descendants who possessed innate gifts. These people were essentially striving for the same abilities as the Immortal Lord. That individual had already achieved that state, while humanity as a whole was constantly moving in that same direction.

There was no telling how many other kinds of lifeforms throughout the megaverse had already taken that step. As humanity as a whole grew stronger, they would encounter more and more incredible species.

After Yan Gang waited for a long time, a jade-colored centipede crawled out of the orb.

Yan Gang was thrilled. "It’s out! One spawned! It's a Scrollbane Centipede!"

Some distance away, True God and the others stared at the Scrollbane Centipede. So, was this the creature that could destroy the inheritance and history of civilizations? This was a beast that could crawl across dimensions.

The Scrollbane Centipede crawled over Yan Gang's body and then onto the ground. Once there, it slowly disappeared.

Forgotten Ruins God was intrigued, and she threw out a book. A breeze blew by, opening the book and flipping the pages. The words on those pages started to move.

"Control it, have it try to eat me," Forgotten Ruins God ordered as she approached the book.

Yan Gang stared at Forgotten Ruins God in a bit of a daze, a look of infatuation flashing through his eyes as he hesitated.

Forgotten Ruins God raised an eyebrow as she looked at Yan Gang. A smirk formed on her lips. "You're quite interesting, little one.

"Now, control it and tell it to eat her." As she spoke, Forgotten Ruins God pointed at Wang Xiaoyu, whose expression remained cold and indifferent.

Yan Gang looked at the book, but just as he was about to give orders to the Scrollbane Centipede, True God suddenly looked up. “Someone frustrating is coming. Time to go.”

Almost immediately, no one was left beneath the starry night sky.

Progenitor Chen emerged from the void, and he looked around at the empty region. All he could see was a book that had been lying on the ground, the wind turning its pages.

Progenitor Chen stared at the book as he approached it. Suddenly, the twisting text on the pages shifted, and a Scrollbane Centipede appeared, its ferocious jaws open as it lunged at the man in an attempt to swallow him whole.

Progenitor Chen casually slapped the Scrollbane Centipede, shattering it into multiple jade-colored fragments that scattered. The sight of the bug surprised him. Was that a Scrollbane Centipede?

He had been kept informed of events in the Origin Universe, and he had heard that Lu Yin had gathered a great number of peak powerhouses in order to deal with the threat of Scrollbane Centipedes.

The fact that Progenitor Chen had encountered a Scrollbane Centipede meant that the person whom Wang Miaomiao had taken away had managed to spawn one of the insects.

This was a problem.

Progenitor Chen’s eyes flashed as he picked up the book and left. Locating Wang Miaomiao was no longer a personal mission, but rather something that concerned all of humanity. The person with the Nest needed to be eliminated.

Far away, Blackless God said, “My lord, leaving that Scrollbane Centipede for Xia Shang is like telling Lu Yin that we produced one. This will lead to us being hunted by all of humanity.”

Forgotten Ruins God chuckled. “Aren’t we already being hunted by all of humanity? Do you really think that Lu Yin will let us go?”

Yan Gang was terrified. Were they going to be hunted by all of humanity? He had never imagined going up against the full might of human civilization. That was just too much pressure.

Blackless God turned to face Forgotten Ruins God. “Wang Miaomiao, what are you up to?”

The woman looked confused by the question. “What do you mean?”

“You killed Zhan Yan and took the River and Mountains Painting, and yet Xia Shang managed to take it from you. How could you not know that Xia Shang has been tracking you, but despite that, you deliberately left that Scrollbane Centipede behind just now. Are you leaving signs for Lu Yin?” Blackless God asked in a serious tone.

Forgotten Ruins God laughed. “My lord, your subordinate is becoming more foolish by the day!”

Black lines spun in Blackless God's eyes. “What did you say?”

Forgotten Ruins God’s smile vanished, and her entire demeanor grew cold. “If I were signaling to Lu Yin, do you think that you’d be safe right now? We probably would have already been surrounded by the Three Realms and Six Daos and the Three Suns and Six Rulers.”

Blackless God’s expression similarly chilled, but he did not argue.

True God stared out at the stars. “What we left behind wasn’t a Scrollbane Centipede, but rather fear.”

Lu Yin returned to the Five Spirits Alliance’s universes. Half a year had passed since Cang Xiaoxue's death, and the Origin Universe’s Scrollbane Centipede problem had been nearly resolved. However, for the Five Spirits Alliance, fifty years had already passed.

During these fifty years, the research taking place had seen numerous breakthroughs, including the production of energy converters, microarray technology, and refining of raw materials for new mechas. After all, their efforts were being propelled by the combined efforts of all known human civilizations, which allowed their research to proceed with remarkable speed.

In the past, Aurora Enterprises had needed decades, or even longer, to develop a new spacecraft. With the added contributions of civilizations like the Technocracy and the Infinity Empire, their research speed was being drastically accelerated. Microarray technology was being researched by seven Array Grandmasters, including Grandmaster Gu Yan, Master Li, Master Xiu Ming, and an Array Grandmaster from the Cyclic Universe. Their progress sped along at a rate that defied imagination. The seventy-six microarray combination was already in mass-production, and research was underway for the 108 microarray combination.

At this moment, it seemed that the goals that Lu Yin had given the researchers were not impossible.

What the researchers were lacking were resources. Despite how resources were constantly flowing in from across the megaverse as multiple parallel universes were being harvested, it was still not enough.

Energy converter, mechas that surpassed the ten-ring level, and tools that could contain 108-array combinations all required extremely rare resources.

Limited resources was the key bottleneck to progress.

With no other choice, Lu Yin personally intervened. He gathered a tremendous amount of star essence and then used his die to Decompose various items into raw materials. On top of that, many resources were then Enhanced. His efforts burned through money, but they greatly increased the rate at which raw materials were sent to the research teams. The consequences for Lu Yin’s actions would be dire, as there was potential for all human civilizations to fall into turmoil and suffer economic collapse that would lead to widespread chaos.

Unfortunately, there was no other way. If the Tianyuan Megaverse wanted to survive the crisis before them, they had to do this.

Lu Yin had no desire to militarize matters, and he would not have done so, given any other choice. Unfortunately, it had become necessary.

Lu Yin had spent about a year in the Five Spirits Alliance’s universes in the accelerated time flow when Progenitor Chen arrived with bad news. Lu Yin was informed that the person who had been taken away by Forgotten Ruins God had already spawned a Scrollbane Centipede.

This was terrible news. Since that person had been taken by Forgotten Ruins God, it meant that they belonged to Aeternus.

No one knew exactly what the Aeternals might do next, but there was no chance that they would ever cooperate with humanity.

On top of that, there were still no leads about Cang Xiaoxue's Verdant Sage. Already, they were facing the threat of another Verdant Sage appearing.

"Senior, this is no longer just your personal vendetta. We need to deal with Forgotten Ruins God quickly. If a Verdant Sage appears, things could spiral out of control," Lu Yin gravely informed Progenitor Chen.

The man nodded. “I know. That’s why I returned. I need to gather reinforcements. Wang Miaomiao has likely already rejoined with True God.”

Lu Yin was startled. “Are you sure?”

Progenitor Chen nodded. “Before, I had to move within a certain distance before Wang Miaomiao could sense me, which was why I was confident that I could attack her. That’s why I moved alone while pursuing her. This last time, I was detected long before I got that close. That had to have been True God. I never had any chance to attack.

"Lord Lu, my impulsiveness caused this disaster. If I had asked the Three Realms and Six Daos for help before, Wang Miaomiao would have never been able to take that Nest."

Lu Yin waved it off. “I think that Forgotten Ruins God was already targeting you, Senior. She’s fought you several times in the past, but that’s not to say that she couldn’t have avoided facing you if she had wanted to.”

Progenitor Chen frowned. "Are you saying that she purposely faced me? What reason could she have for that?"

"Wang Xiaoyu," Lu Yin replied.

Progenitor Chen's eyes flashed. "You think that she wanted to test if Wang Xiaoyu truly betrayed humanity?"

Lu Yin explained, "It’s clear to everyone that Wang Xiaoyu's betrayal is suspicious, so how could Forgotten Ruins God have missed that? Before, she didn't care because of how many powerful experts the Aeternals had, and Wang Xiaoyu wasn't really necessary to them. That's why Wang Xiaoyu stayed as one of the twelve Marquises on the rear battlefield and was never allowed to become a Progenitor. Things are different now. Aeternus has collapsed, and there are only a few Aeternals left. This makes Wang Xiaoyu very important.

"Forgotten Ruins God is extremely cunning. When you caught up to her and she fought you multiple times, she was most likely trying to confirm whether or not there was something wrong with Wang Xiaoyu. After she became certain, she rejoined True God. This would also explain why, when True God and the others fled on the Ossis Ark, Forgotten Ruins God left on her own with just Wang Xiaoyu.

"Of course, these are nothing more than my suspicions."

Progenitor Chen responded, "That’s not impossible. Wang Miaomiao has survived since the ancient Heavens Sect era, and it’s difficult to see through her schemes. Even within Aeternus, she’s unique. She’s even mastered True God's Natural Art, which she never revealed in the past."

Lu Yin was taken aback. "Forgotten Ruins God can use True God's Natural Art?"

Progenitor Chen nodded.

"Then that complicates things even further. She's not nearly as simple as she appeared," Lu Yin remarked.

"Regardless, I need people to go with me to track them down. Even if we can't catch up to them, we can't allow them to simply escape," Progenitor Chen said.

Lu Yin agreed. True God and his followers could not be allowed to act freely.

Decades passed in the Five Spirits Alliance’s universes, though only half a year passed in other universes. No more Scrollbane Centipedes appeared in the Origin Universe.

Of course, there was still no trace of the Verdant Sage that Cang Xiaoxue’s Nest had spawned.

As for Progenitor Chen, he and the others left in pursuit of Forgotten Ruins God and True God, but they failed to find them. It was practically guaranteed that the person with the Nest that Forgotten Ruins God had taken would eventually spawn a Verdant Sage, unless True God and his followers could all be eliminated. However, finding them was no easier than eradicating every last Nest in the Tianyuan Megaverse.

While Lu Yin and the Heavens Sect knew that a great number of Nests had been destroyed, they had no way of knowing just how many remained. They also could not say whether any of the remaining Nests were close to spawning a Verdant Sage, or if a Verdant Sage had already infiltrated a human civilization.
