As the preliminary match neared its end, victory’s favor continued to sway back and forth between both contenders. After seeing that angel cheering for him, the handsome man had focused entirely on the game, managing to barely make it through that turn alive, which made his fan group erupt with shrill cheers.

On top of that, it was common for the audience to want to cheer for the underdog, and he had been very close to defeat so most of the crowd was also cheering for him, making him want to try even more to turn things around in his favor.

(Hm… He’s really going too far now… He’ll make me lose just when I finally showed up!)

Before she realized, everyone was cheering on the handsome man. They were all thrilled to see how he had pulled himself back from a near defeat.

The Wiseman Danbulf lost to Simone Chris from the Nameless 48 Generals. It was just a defeat in a card game, not reality, but it still did not sit well with Mira.

Her heart pounded as she continued to watch the match.

It was the handsome man’s turn now. He was still in a perilous position, but he was trying to find a way to not only stabilize but to fight back. He knew he had to be thorough and close any possible openings, so he focused more than during the entire match thus far.

The beautiful woman endured that relentless outlash, surviving by the breadth of a hair. But her dazzling face began to cloud, her eyes desperate. Just one more blow and the match would be over, victory slipping away from her fingertips. The possibility of such a comeback was clearly taking a heavy toll on her.

That feeling spread to her fans as well, their hearts wavering as they began to fear she could end up losing.

(Isn’t this exactly the time when you should believe in her and cheer more?!)

The voices of the beautiful woman’s fans were also becoming weaker, and they quickly drowned out, overtaken by the shrill cheers of the handsome man’s fans. That prompted Mira to move, making her way through the crowd.

She was heading to the area with the beautiful woman’s fans.

「That isn’t looking very good.」

「I thought Danbulf would’ve done enough.」

「I can’t believe he made it through all that.」

The beautiful woman’s fans muttered amongst each other, looking at the playing board with uneasiness. They all had been swallowed by fear, believing that there was no coming back now.

「You fools! Why would you falter like this! Your duty as fans should be to cheer her even more in times of difficulty, believing she can still achieve a victory!」

Mira had finally crossed through the excited crowd, reaching the fans, and after joining them, she shouted at them. The beautiful woman had still played better than the handsome man so far, and there was only one reason why she was falling behind now. Her mental state had deteriorated.

Hearing Mira, the fans realized they had been swallowed by uneasiness as well, and at the same time, understood what they had to do to fix things.

「Yes…you’re right. If we don’t support her now, who’s going to do it!」

After snapping out of it thanks to Mira’s shout, the flames of their devotion were fanned and they began cheering loudly again. Mira also joined them in their cheers, and they were so loud that they caught the attention of everyone there.

Everyone laughed about how they had to be scolded to resume their cheering, and even the beautiful woman chuckled. And then, things began to change in the playing field.

It seemed like the fervent cheering was effective, as the beautiful woman’s demeanor changed, her uneasiness blown away. Having a strong mental fortitude was always important, and it would sometimes bring good fortune in mysterious ways.

With all of the cheering from Mira and the fans, the fight began to tip in favor of the beautiful woman again, and as she moved on the offensive, the whole crowd gasped, and the handsome man’s fans cried in anguish.

「He lost his focus.」

One of her fans muttered that. It had been so sudden that Mira did not notice, but the handsome man had made a strange mistake, and even his face was overtaken with confusion.

That had a cascading effect, as the beautiful woman began to mercilessly take down her opponent’s units. And then the final turn finally came, as Danbulf’s card defeated the last remainder of the handsome man’s formation.

「And the winner is Leona!」

As the announcer shouted the name of the winner, the audience began clapping, followed by loud cheering everywhere.

A comeback from a comeback, that was a rare event to see in tournaments, and everyone was delighted to have been there to witness it. The neutral audience that had been cheering on the handsome man had also turned to cheer on Leona, as she had proved to be capable of turning things around after she was nearly overtaken as well, making for an exciting match.

「By the way, who exactly are you? I’ve never seen you around here before, are you also a fan of Leona?」

The two players retreated backstage while the staff prepared the awards ceremony. Once they were gone, one of Leona’s fans turned around and spoke to Mira, his face lit up with a certain hope.

「Me? …No, I’m just a passing fan of Danbulf.」 She did not want to see the card depicting her to lose. That was a truth she obviously could not reveal, so she gave a more vague reply instead.

「I see, so that was it. But that makes sense. I also like Danbulf. He’s Leona’s trump card!」

The fan looked slightly disappointed hearing that, but recovered quickly and replied with a smile. Then he looked slightly embarrassed as he added that maybe he and Mira could get along nicely then.

「Thank you, this wouldn’t have happened without you.」

As that fan became more restless, he was pushed aside as another man took his place. This one looked like the fans’ leader, and he held out his hand with a smile.

「I didn’t do anything. It just irked me to see you look so distraught.」 Mira grasped his hand and shook it, staring at the other fans as she replied.

「That really was a shameful display…」

「Yeah…」

「I can’t believe we couldn’t do better…」

After that, they all vowed to remember what happened that day and never waver like that again. Then another fan pushed the leader aside, as he was still grasping Mira’s hand, and tried to give her a handshake himself.

Mira did not mind and shook that hand as well, while wishing them good luck. With the match over, Mira hoped that Leona would continue to do well during the tournament, and left that place.

Meanwhile, in the player rooms backstage, the handsome man looked awfully depressed.

「Just what happened out there? I get it that you were under a lot of pressure, but normally you’d never make a dumb mistake like that.」

One of his friends was there, but the handsome man continued to look down, mumbling his reply.

「It was nothing.」

「Do you expect me to believe that? It happened at exactly the same time when Leona’s fans started to cheer again. And you’ve been acting strange since then… No, did they do anything to you?」

His friend had noticed that the handsome man’s concentration had faded and he made that fatal mistake just when Leona’s fans started cheering again. That timing was very suspicious, and he had lost all motivation since that moment.

「No, that didn’t happen. I’m sure you know those guys, they would never do anything like that.」

It was easy to think that Leona’s fans had used some underhanded method to give her the win. But the handsome man denied that, as her fans were all well behaved and respectful, honoring her opponents as proper rivals.
