Chapter 1206. The Demon King of Sunset’s Castle (26)Chapter 1206. The Demon King of Sunset’s Castle (26)
[The Monarch of Sunset rises from his throne.]
[The Monarch of Sunset desperately searching for the God of Sacrifice and Revival seeks to destroy his enemies.]
‘What do I do?’
'What should I do about this?'
“Um... Guild master! Guild master!” I[1] called out to him.
“...”
I saw the guild master walking away without any hesitation.
‘What do I do? What...’
My mind went blank, as I had never imagined that the guild master, who had been sitting quietly, would suddenly stand up.
‘How did it turn out like this?’
Normally, I wouldn’t really care about him standing up, as there was nothing I could do about it. I was the youngest member of the guild, after all. If it weren't for the secret mission, I wouldn’t care about the guild master’s actions.
‘They told me to stop him.’
Actually, stopping him wasn’t the right expression. It was more like I needed to persuade him to stay for as long as possible. Even though it seemed pointless to talk, I had to say something.
“...”
“You can’t go outside yet...” I mumbled.
“...”
“Y-You’ll most likely... receive a penalty if you go outside. I-I’m sure you know better than I do... b-but you were summoned here as a demon lord... so until we've collected enough holy power, you can’t leave...
"You’ll probably receive a penalty... I-I’m not really sure, but...” I paused.
“...”
“When the 27th Legion was summoned on our continent, they couldn’t immediately set off. A-at least that’s what I heard. If you leave now, you might get recalled. I know it’s difficult to sit here and do nothing, but the other guild members are... working hard as well... so if you could just wait a little longer.” I begged.
“...”
“Um, Guild Master... Guild Master!” I called out.
‘How... am I supposed to stop him?’
A mere glance was enough for me to tell that he was in a bad mood. It had been a while since he groomed his long hair that came down to his waist, and his bloodshot eyes burned with a fierce, deadly aura.
It was to the point that I questioned if he was still the same guild master whom I was familiar with. To be honest, I was skeptical, but I had no choice but to admit that Miss Sun Hee-Young could be right.
Either the guild master had gone crazy, or...
‘He might not be the guild master whom we're familiar with.’
We had yet to reach a conclusion. To be honest, I didn’t know what was going on because it was up to my seniors to make the decision. It would be nice if I knew their conversations and meetings, but for now, I had to follow the orders they gave me.
I left the trembling Shiro and hurried to the door.
I faced the guild master and stuttered, “I-I said you should wait a little longer, Master."
“Who gave that order?” he asked with a raspy voice.
“Pardon?” I asked.
“...”
“...”
“I asked who gave that order,” he repeated.
“W-Well, it was Miss... Sun Hee-Young and—”
“Whose orders are you supposed to follow?” he interrupted me.
“Yours and the sub guild master...” I answered.
“...”
“...”
“Then get out of my way,” he ordered.
“Ah...”
For a moment, a deadly chill squeezed me. Something that I couldn’t possibly defy enveloped me. An overwhelming fear engulfed my mind. Moreover, I was having a hard time standing because my legs were trembling.
I couldn’t breathe as well.
“Woof!”
Shiro’s bark helped me relax a bit, but as I said, it was only a little bit.
It felt like all I could do was tremble in fear. I couldn’t understand where I got the courage to stop the guild master.
The guild master took another step and—
“It’s the sub guild master’s will.”
I heard a voice.
I turned toward the source of the voice and saw a familiar figure.
‘Mr. Chang-Ryeol.’
He was dressed like a typical assassin, and his face was concealed behind a mask as well. It was Mr. Lee Chang-Ryeol, my direct senior. I wasn’t sure when he got here, but seeing that the guild master wasn’t surprised to see him, he had to have been hiding here for a long time.
In some ways, it was pretty obvious.
If there was something actually wrong with the guild master, then they wouldn’t have left me here all alone.
“The bloodlust you’re radiating is overwhelming,” Lee Chang-Ryeol remarked.
“...”
“...”
“Is it true that it’s Mr. Ki-Young’s will?” Kim Hyun-Sung asked.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Are you referring to the fake version of Mr. Ki-Young that’s outside?” Kim Hyun-Sung asked.
“...”
“Does your silence mean yes? Or do you not understand what I said?” Kim Hyun-Sung questioned.
“I clearly remember what you said. You said the one here was the fake one. Guild master, he’s not fake. Right now, he may seem like he has lost his memories... but I’m sure... Miss Sun Hee-Young and Miss Jung Ha-Yan—”
“I told you that his soul is different! Damn it!” Kim Hyun-Sung interrupted.
“...”
“Are you... questioning my judgement right now? He’s a fake! Damn it! The one outside isn’t the real Mr. Ki-Young. I told you that it’s some being wearing Mr. Ki-Young’s mask! I-I know Mr. Ki-Young better than anyone here!
"Why won’t you believe me?! Shit!” Kim Hyun-Sung cursed.
“Guild Master...”
“We got disconnected! Disconnected... I don’t feel anything. How many times do I need to tell you that he’s someone else? Shit! Is it because of that? Is that the reason you’re not letting me leave?
"Is that why you locked me in here? Is it because you can't believe me, so you have to pull such a pathetic trick to keep me here?!” Kim Hyun-Sung yelled.
“How could we lock you up, Master? It’s just how the situation turned out. Surely, you know that leaving the throne can result in some sort of penalty. In the worst-case scenario, you could get recalled.
"If you really care about him, waiting for them to come here is the best option. If you can’t do that, then at least trust us...” Lee Chang-Ryeol explained.
“Trust what?! You don’t trust me, so how do you expect me to trust you?! Tell me! Damn it. What am I supposed to believe? Who am I supposed to trust? Kim Ye-Ri? Sun Hee-Young? They’re all being controlled by that fake, so who am I supposed to trust?”
“...”
“I might get recalled? Recalled?! If I were scared of that, I wouldn’t come here in the first place. I’ll come back here even if it means destroying Rohen. I’ll do whatever it takes to find Mr. Ki-Young. Of course, I'm going to crush the heads of those bastards first."
“You’re really worked up, Master.” Lee Chang-Ryeol pointed out.
“What?”
“How about calming down a bit? I’m sorry to tell you this... but I think you’re emotionally exhausted. You never really had any proper rest since we arrived here, and you've been doing nothing but moving forward. As far as I know, you have yet to recover from the battle with the 21st Legion Commander...” Lee Chang-Ryeol added.
“...”
“I’ll do my best to make sure the sub guild master is safe... so please trust us one last time,” Lee Chang-Ryeol requested.
“Whoo...”
Perhaps it was just me, but he seemed to have calmed down a bit. When he took a deep breath, it seemed like he was trying to organize his thoughts.
“I’m sure he’ll be really heartbroken if he sees you like this,” Mr. Chang-Ryeol added.
“Mr. Ki-Young...” Kim Hyun-Sung mumbled.
The atmosphere seemed to have changed.
“...”
“Mr. Ki-Young is probably expecting me to save him,” Kim Hyun-Sung remarked.
“Guild Master.”
“He’s waiting for me... to save him in that dark world where he can’t see anything. Even though he’s screaming in pain... and trembling in fear every day... he believes that I’ll come save him someday. Damn it...” Kim Hyun-Sung said.
“Guild Master...”
“Answer me. Think about the pain Mr. Ki-Young must be in while I'm sitting here comfortably without doing anything! I’m tired of waiting and repeating myself like some parrot... I also don’t like how everyone looks at me as if I’ve become crazy,” Kim Hyun-Sung complained.
“...”
“Let me say this again... I’m not mad, and I'm not mentally impaired to the point that I'd spout nonsense. I... can recognize Lee Ki-Young better than anyone. In my eyes, you all look like you’ve lost your minds... Damn it! I... I couldn’t even apologize to him.
"I couldn’t... Why... why won’t you leave Mr. Ki-Young alone?! Shit! Why is this place so desperate to eat up Mr. Ki-Young, damn it?! I need to get rid of it all. All of it...” Kim Hyun-Sung muttered.
The air itself seemed to be shaking. It was like the entire Demon Castle was trembling.
Then, the hall became quiet again.
“I have nothing more to say,” Kim Hyun-Sung said.
“...”
“Move. It’s an order,” Kim Hyun-Sung said
“Guild Master.”
“If you keep getting in my way, I promise... I’ll consider you an enemy,” Kim Hyun-Sung threatened.
“...”
“...”
“I’m sorry,” Lee Chang-Ryeol said.
“What?”
“For you and for the sub guild master... I cannot move aside. At least until you—”
Bang!
I heard an explosion. I trembled at the thunderous noise, and I watched as the guild master’s hand flew toward Mr. Chang-Ryeol. Mr. Chang-Ryeol barely managed to raise his arm to defend himself.
Crack!
A gruesome noise echoed as his arm twisted in a strange way.
“M-Mr. Chang-Ryeol!” I yelled.
Lee Chang-Ryeol was also blasted away, slamming into a wall. He was blasted away so fast that my eyes couldn’t keep up. It was just a single hit; it wasn't even a proper attack.
I saw how Mr. Chang-Ryeol was neutralized without being able to fight back and with just a single attack, and I couldn’t believe what I witnessed.
However, Mr. Chang-Ryeol didn’t scream. Instead, he got up quietly.
“Can I take this as a direct act of disobedience?” Kim Hyun-Sung asked.
I couldn’t help but close my eyes upon seeing a long needle sticking out of the guild master’s arm.
‘Come to think of it, I heard Mr. Chang-Ryeol hides poison in his mouth.’
“Answer me. I’m asking if this is a coup,” Kim Hyun-Sung questioned.
I heard no answer, but the door I thought was never going to open again was opened.
Then, I heard familiar voices.
“I’m sorry, Master. However... we can’t let you leave.”
‘Miss Sun Hee-Young.’
“Hey bro, don’t you think you’re taking it too far? You think we’re not worried about hyung-nim?”
‘Mr. Deok-Gu.’
“We’re not trying to rebel, but we’re asking you to understand us. You’re acting strange right now. You're being possessed by an evil spirit. Regardless of whether that sub guild master is the real one or not, you need to rest.”
‘Miss Elena.’
“Oppa. Get a hold of yourself. This... isn’t like you. Ki-Young oppa...”
‘Miss Kim Ye-Ri.’
The incapacitated Mr. Chang-Ryeol recovered instantly as if time had turned back.
Miss Park Lian walked over to support him.
Belier, who was in a similar situation as me, nervously stepped forward.
Meanwhile, Miss Jung-Yeon was already channeling a spell.
‘I’m scared.’
The guild master saw that and muttered, “I haven’t lost my mind.”
“...”
“I haven’t lost my mind... damn it,” Kim Hyun-Sung repeated.
For some reason, the guild master looked really sad, as if he was being cornered.
