Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1256: Beginning Of The End (2)

To be fair, Ames was not as invested in Array as most of her kin. It was not that she found it too complicated or dull; instead, because it was a magic branch that her husband, Zane, excelled in, she decided to focus on excelling in another branch.

In any case, her father's proficiency in Array was also good, and there was also Ducal. So Ames never really thought much about it.

Consequently, she never gave much consideration to Kyran's communication device. It wasn't that she lacked trust in his creation; instead, like many with only a fundamental understanding of Array, when someone claimed that an array formation in some location was beyond comprehension for anyone in this era, she took their word for it without question.

That was why Ames never tried accessing the communication device Kyran gave her.

"I haven't tried," she admitted with a slight pursed lips. To be honest, she felt a little annoyed that it did not cross her mind to check the communication device.

In Ames's defense, though, she wouldn't have known it at that time, she would not have been able to use the device if she did try to call Kyran in the early days of the conference. This was because Kyran emphasized the communication target's unique magic energy, allowing it to send coded messages without worrying about distance and other restrictions.

Since Kyran suffered the aftereffects of being in the Void State for so long, the communication device would not show any reactions.

"Let's try it," Ames said after a short pause. "But we can't do it here."

Attor and Eissen nodded.

Their residence had no spy-related arrays, but that did not mean using the communication device there was safe. Moreover, it was an independent space that the Solis Clan created.

Space Magic was different from Void Magic. Others were convinced that the former was related to the latter, but that was not the case. However, it was different when it was an 'independent' space. The

Independent

Term describing the space was related to one of the Void's natures. Furthermore, creating an independent space required a powerful relic to use as its 'core.'

That was right. Independent spaces were similar to the 'Spirit World' Caelan created using White Lily's crown. The only difference was that when a mage without Void magic created such spaces, it could only stay active for a limited time. If the item they used as a core produced magic energy, that space would be active. The space would automatically be destroyed when the core exhausted its energy source.

Because the Solis Clan possessed the items used as cores on all the residences, they would detect any abnormal activity inside the independent space. Ames, Attor, and Eissen did not know how much they could detect the abnormal activity. However, they had no plans to find out. They would instead do their experiment in another location.

Fortunately, they had been observing the palace's layout these past few days, and although there were restricted areas, there were also 'blind spots' that were out of the palace's array formation's effect.

"I'll keep watch," Eissen volunteered while glancing at Attor. "I'll leave Lady Ames to you."

"Alright."

Lucian had been in a bad mood since he discovered that the Numen Clan gave the grimoire to the Dragon Clan. Initially, he wanted to talk with Libb privately after they talked with Ames and her group, then Rãɴо𐌱Ɛṡ

Her to show the grimoire once.

Lucian only needed to look at the grimoire once to confirm its origin because he was among the handful of people who met the Four Greatest Minds of the Ancients when they were still alive.

Alas, his plan went awry because Libb, probably expecting his scheme, decided to surrender the grimoire to Ames. It was a wise move since Lucian did not want to touch the Dragon Clan representatives yet.

He already laid out a plan to deal with them once and for all after the conference.

'...Right. It's not completely a lost cause,' Lucian thought as he leaned on the high chair and closed his eyes. He was inside the palace's Throne Room and had only finished talking to a few clan leaders from Sector D of the northwest region of the Higher Realm.

'The grimoire will eventually fall into my hands after I dealt with them.'

The massive twin doors opened, and several clan leaders were escorted into the Throne Room by a Solis executive.

Lucian opened his eyes and watched the leaders take their seats on the chairs prepared by the Solis executives below the throne.

The Solis executive lowered his head and said, "Your Majesty, they are the eleven clan leaders from Sector E of the northwest region of the Higher Realm."

"Leave."

The Solis executive left without straightening his back.

Lucian looked at the eleven leaders, who still exuded an air of arrogance because of their victory during the past day's prepared

. He smiled inwardly while thinking how stupidly simpleminded they were.

"Who will start first?" he asked, exerting his magic influence through his voice to ensure they knew not to overstep their bounds.

As soon as the leaders felt his magic influence, they flinched inwardly.

On another location, in the deepest corner of the Higher Realm.

The One Who Caused The Fall looked at the center of the formation where Estrid's body lay motionless. A small smile appeared on his vaguely formed face as the latter's tails started moving.

The magic energies around them crackled as if they were excited by something they could only sense.

"You have been through a lot," The One Who Caused The Fall said, his red eyes flickered slightly while looking at Estrid.

The tails covering Estrid's body protectively slowly moved aside and revealed her face.

It was unknown when she reverted to her human form, but more importantly than that, she looked somewhat different.

Estrid's seductive appearance in her human form was nowhere to be found. Instead, it was replaced by a pure and gentle appearance as if she had been reborn anew.

"Come," The One Who Caused The Fall continued. "Let me see your face."

The tails around Estrid lifted and guided her before The One Who Caused The Fall.

"...Father," Estrid greeted as she knelt on one knee and gazed at him with loving eyes.

The One Who Caused The Fall smiled. But because his face was hidden under his mist-like robe, she did not see it. Still, the moment he responded to her, his joy was evident in his voice, "You have now been reborn anew. I understand your frustrations for so long, but now, you have the power to

Them."

Estrid smiled lovingly at him and said, "I will not disappoint you, Father."

"The time is nigh. Let us go."

"I will follow your lead."

Cade furrowed his brows and looked up at the sky.

The Inter-Clan Conference was nearing its end, and he, with the Regis Family, and the Dragon Clan had been busy preparing for what was to come.

They had anticipated The Emperor's plans, and he was confident they would not be disadvantaged once it started. Still, he could not shake off his uneasiness.

It felt as if he had missed something, and not remembering it could pose a huge risk to their preparations.

"...You have been scowling for some time now," a voice spoke from behind, prompting Cade to turn and look.

Rin, who noticed his mood, stood there with a concerned look.

"What is it?" she asked.

Cade heaved a sigh and admitted, "I'm not sure. I feel like... there is something missing, but I don't know what it is."

In the end, he could only shake his head, thinking that he might only be making a mountain out of a hill.

"...No. Maybe I'm only overthinking things."

Rin studied Cade's face in silence. To be honest, she did not approach him just because she noticed his mood. For the past few days, she had been feeling restless. At first, she thought it might be because of what was to come. But as the Inter-Clan Conference's end drew near, she felt even more restless.

"That... may not be the case," she said after hesitating for a moment.

As much as she did not want to cause any unnecessary worry, she knew not voicing her thoughts could lead to even more problem. If it turned out that there was nothing, then they could just forget about it. At least they could share their opinions and double-check if they had really done everything they could.

"I also feel a little restless lately and... to be honest, its getting worse as the end of the Inter-Clan Conference drew closer."

Cade looked at Rin with a solemn expression. Rin's intuitions have always been on point compared to his and Nolan's. If something was bothering her, he could not ignore his uneasiness as well.

"I'll go check on the others again."

"I'll help," Rin knew how busy everyone was. If Cade wanted to check what the others were doing by himself, it would take him days to finish.

"Then... Please tell Father and check on our family's preparations."
