Four days before the official start of the Inter-Clan Conference, Kyran, Cyneah, and Alta went to the unnamed plane, where the Blade Dancer Clan had relocated. On the way, they encountered a merchant ship and met a familiar face— Ruin.
To be honest, Kyran was no longer surprised at Ruin's sudden appearance. The latter always had a way of tracking his movements, even when they were in the Lower Realm. The only time Ruin failed to find Kyran was in the Human plane, probably because it was his
Home plane
.
In any case, Ruin's arrival was not entirely unwelcome. Kyran did want them to talk. However, the events in the Crepuscule Auction House went so crazy that they did not get that chance. In fact, Kyran did not even know how Ruin survived. He only sensed Neo's old body was still intact and guessed Ruin managed to escape just before the Crepuscule Auction House was obliterated.
As if the two had a prior agreement, they never mentioned what happened in the Crepuscule Auction House and simply went down to business.
Ruin's purpose in coming was to talk about the Inter-Clan Conference. He initially wanted to propose infiltrating the event and causing a commotion. However, he guessed Kyran already had a plan and requested to be let in. In turn, he promised to provide Kyran with manpower and logistics.
Kyran was surprised at Ruin's request. He did not mind the additional assistance since he needed all he could get. Ruin already assisted in providing intel, but it was limited given the size and influence of his merchant clan. As a matter of fact, some of the intel they had was already available in the Ogen Clan's intel. Having two clans providing the same intel was counterproductive. Thus, Kyran thought it would be better if one of them— in this case, Ruin— offered a different form of assistance.
But what surprised Kyran was that Ruin offered logistic assistance, which posed more risk of exposure than sharing intel.
The merchant clan Ruin took over was medium-sized and had to participate in the Inter-Clan Conference. One small mistake could easily endanger the clan.On a side note, Kyran guessed that Ruin planned on using the merchant clan as their cover if he insisted on infiltrating the event.
Anyway, Kyran agreed to include Ruin in the plan. Ruin might be incapable of fully utilizing his strength since he was only using a makeshift body, but Kyran already knew how effective he was in battle. Ruin's magic was so unpredictable that it would be a great addition to any tactics they developed.
After that, Ruin joined Kyran and his group as they journey toward the unnamed plane.
Three days later, they reached the unnamed plane. Although their journey usually exceeds two weeks, incorporating a long-distance teleportation array into the ship's system enabled them to reduce their travel time significantly.
For the record, Kyran had not recovered his ability to absorb magic energies naturally. Fortunately, that did not affect his ability to write formulas with Void runes. The only challenge was finding the material to incorporate the Void property into those runes.
It was similar to how a material that produces specific magic energy would become a substitute for a particular magic type and be used when writing the magic runes.
There was no known material that could produce Void magic energy. Then again, even if there was, no one knew any Void runes, so they would not be able to draw out its energy.
In any case, Kyran did not have any problem with writing the Void runes on any array formation before because his internal magic energy was the Void. He became the catalyst that incorporated the Void magic energy into the runes he wrote.
Unfortunately, Kyran inability to absorb magic energies affected his ability to incorporate Void magic energy into the Void runes he wrote.
Fortunately, Cyneah noticed Kyran's dilemma and told him about the treasures they took from the Crepuscule Treasure Vault.
That was when Kyran saw the cauldron emitting Void magic energy again.
Using that cauldron, Kyran managed to concoct an ink that he could use to write Void Runes. In fact, he could not even call it a complete concoction because he did not use any materials and only added water into the cauldron to boil. At the time, he was still thinking of what to put in and waiting for the water to boil. But surprisingly, when the water boiled, its color changed to dark purple, which emitted a very condensed Void magic energy.
With the ink available, Kyran completed the long-distance teleportation formula and incorporated it into the ship's array formation.
Shiloh and Zigor greeted Kyran and his group upon their arrival. Geir and Uilleam should have been with them, but they left the unnamed plane a few days ago and were on a different task.
Zigor led Kyran and Ruin to the newly constructed conference hall. Meanwhile, Shiloh escorted Cyneah and Alta to the residential area, where a mansion that Kyran and his people could use was built.
When Kyran, Ruin, and Zigor arrived in the conference hall, the remaining Blade Dancer Clan elders and talents were already there. They only provided minimal pleasantries because they already knew Kyran's temperament and started the meeting immediately instead.
The topics discussed in the meeting were brief because they had already given Kyran the full details when he had met with Shiloh a few days prior. Moreover, they had already received new tasks that needed to be addressed as soon as possible, so they focused more on them.
The construction of the stronghold was already 75% complete. There were only a few establishments left that needed to be constructed. Among these were land and aerial ports for docking ships and a forgery.
Previously, these establishments were the least of their priority because they did not have ships to dock or artisans to run the forgery.
However, they now had to focus on building these because the 'artisans' and the needed ships would be available soon.
Artisans in the Higher Realm were equivalent to Blacksmiths in the Human plane.
The Dragon Clan already had them, but since Kyran did not want to rely on them to provide everything, he wanted to have his own forgery and group of artisans.
Actually, Kyran already had an excellent team of artisans, and they were all part of the Regis Clan.
Moreover, if he decided to seek Noir and Sigma's assistance, he would need to provide a big workstation for them.
As for the matter of ships, Ruin agreed to take care of it. Since his merchant clan would provide logistic assistance, he would prepare a few ships for them.
Once they agreed with these two subjects, they proceeded to review the Blade Dancer Clan's current defensive measures.
The defensive measures included the Grand Array Formation and physical defensive structures around its walls. As of that moment, they had implemented 80% of the latter, while the former had yet to be constructed.
The reason they did not start the Grand Array Formation's construction was not because they did not have enough materials. Instead, they were waiting for Kyran to review it and see if there was anything else they could improve on.
Thus, for most of that day's meeting, Kyran and the Array Legendaries of the clan reviewed the array formation.
Surprisingly, Ruin also provided his input, and the elders were surprised at his knowledge. It could not be helped since the input he gave them mostly involved the strong points of known mages under The Emperor's side.
The Blade Dancer Clan used to be one of the three clans that led The Emperor's faction. They also had relevant information on them. However, Ruin's input provided a more in-depth view of these mages' strong points, allowing them to create a more effective defensive formula to counter them.
The more they shared insight, the more complex the Grand Array Formation became. Because of this, the Blade Dancer Clan worried about the materials required to complete them.
When matters about materials were typically discussed, Kyran could easily dismiss them because he could create them from nothing. However, because of his current state, he also found himself troubled.
As for the treasures that Cyneah and the others took from the Crepuscule Treasure Vault, they were primarily magic items. There were materials and ingredients for array and alchemy, but they were too few. The reason they did not take any was because they were aware of Kyran's ability to create anything from nothing.
Ruin's merchant clan could provide the materials, but that only included those available in the market. Seeing how complex the Grand Array Formation had become, rare materials were definitely needed.
Without the Crepuscule Clan to provide anonymous requests for those materials on their behalf, they would have a problem securing them.
Kyran thought of Oceanus. However, he rejected the idea of reaching out to them as soon as it crossed his mind.
The Ogen Clan was still known as a neutral faction. Nonetheless, the large clans kept a close eye on them because Oceanus was one of those rare Overlords in the Higher Realm. If the Ogen Clan started asking for rare materials, those clans keeping an eye on them would become suspicious.
Why did the Ogen Clan start looking for those materials? What were those materials suitable for? Where would the Ogen Clan use them?
Such questions would arise, and the Ogen Clan might get in trouble.
With the disappearance of the Crepuscule Clan, the first ones to sense their absence were the Kyran and the Blade Dancer Clan.
Or, at least, that was the case until the following day.
One of the Blade Dancer Clan scouting the premises discovered a group of mages bearing the Crepuscule Clan insignia.
Marigold, with a few elders of her clan, had arrived and requested to meet with the survivors of the Blade Dancer Clan.
