Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1222 - 1222: Why energy beasts are cute

[Rein’s POV: ]

“Miss Uriel?” I was the only one that raised my hand in the middle of the class so Sir Jaz looked up at me in the back and, following his gaze, the rest of my classmates also looked up.

“I have a question, teacher.”

The ongoing class of Sir Jaz was almost about to end now. The thing he was teaching today, the application of Aura in a situation where you have to save a creature or human that had been wounded to close the wound, had been pretty interesting till now.

But that last thing he just said…

“Yes? What is it?” He seemed to be expecting a question from someone at least. His eyes lit up as soon as I raised my hand.

The students knew this kind of reaction. They had seen him like that so they knew something new was coming up now.

“You just said we have to maintain the energy output when using the Aura, right? If we are off when executing this procedure, we would worsen the wound, yes?”

It was simple knowledge.

The Aura was a power that, by nature, was destructive.

It was used to destroy something, to break something, and to kill others. It wasn’t something that should be used for first aid, especially not when one doesn’t know how to do it– or when their Aura’s nature itself is incapable of it.

“Why is it that we should administer something like this in the first place? Wouldn’t it be easier to use a healing potion on the wounds and stitch them using something else?”

This is the class about the application of Mana, Aura, and powers but why not holy power? Why not Mana, a healing skill, or something that actually possessed healing properties? Why something so dangerous?

‘We don’t use it on the battlefield nowadays either so I don’t see the whole point of learning a process like this when most of us can’t even use Aura.’

My question was simple and genine. Why teach something that wasn’t going to be useful practically?

“You’re correct for saying the other methods would be more useful, Miss Uriel.” His answer came with a smile.

“However, as a mage and as someone who has been a magic user for a long time now, what do you think is the biggest disadvantage of being a mage on a battlefield?”

He seemed to be excited right now, as if I had started a conversation that he had been looking forward to for a long time now.

He was certainly happy. He even tapped the desk three times, and it was certainly a good sign for the rest of the class since they were going to learn something new.

It was known among our class that whenever he’s like this, this great teacher of ours will teach us something interesting.

[{ “You’re gonna get a class point today, dear.” }]

Eon seemed to be aware of what was going on with the teacher. He seemed to be aware of what was going on with him, but he simply continued on with his notes, leaving me with another mysterious smile.

“Biggest disadvantage…”

He asked me a question, so at the very least, I needed to answer his question if I wanted my own answer.

“I believe it is the limited pool of one’s Mana. Once a mage runs out of Mana, they are as good as regular soldiers if they don’t have any artifact that can supplement their Mana deficiency.”

If one was on the battlefield, they were bound to be trained mages. They would have experience, they would have great techniques drilled into them. They would know their roles and they would be amazing at what they do.

On any battlefield, even the most basic of the mages were of (tier-4). If there were (tier-3) mages, then they would not be in the role of a mage, but a special combat unit of low-grade mages assigned on the frontlines to fight the regular soldiers.

‘I didn’t really face any great challenges on the battlefield since I mostly had my scythe but, I’ve seen mages run out of Mana while trying to use expensive skills and ending up using their own life-force and giving up their lives using them.’

Skills were dangerous if one did not have the resources to use them. They did not care about the source of energy, as long as one had any energy left in them, a skill would use it to power itself.

But magic was not the same. Once a mage ran out of Mana, they would become as good as a physically weak solder.

One arrow would be all that it takes to take them down– even (tier-5), (tier-6) high mages aren’t immune to this.

“That’s correct. The limited Mana pool is the greatest weakness of a mage on the battlefield where unexpected things happen all the time, something that is usually supplemented with an emergency supply of Mana.”

Some mages use an artifact that stores their Mana, some materialize their Mana and store it for later use.

‘We use the coins while some other mages use something similar. Still, it’s not easy to use the Mana within these external sources even if it’s their own.’

The process is painful, and not advised. Instead of using these objects as reserved Mana sources, it’s advised to just overload them and use them as explosives in critical situations.

“What happens when a mage runs out of Mana and there’s no priest to save an important figure on the battlefield?”

-Snap!

He was about to finish hsi class, but I knew as soon as he brought up the magic screens around the class that the class was not going to end anytime soon.

“Until around a century ago, it was a norm for each Aura to use solder to learn this emergency treatment technique.

Back then, due to the scarcity of resources, many of the places could not have enough potions. In smaller towns, it was necessary for the knights to learn this technique not just to treat the wounded soldiers and comrades, but also the energy beasts that the villagers or their armies have brought with them.”

Teacher showed us pictures of knights using their Aura with such precision that it only covered the wound and the area around it.

The wound was not healed but closed and they were moved to a safer place. It not only saved countless lives on the battlefield that could have died due to a wound, many of the beasts that were brought by the forces were saved thanks to this method.

“This technique doesn’t only allow one to get a better control over their Aura handling, it works where the light of priests and healing skills doesn’t reach… also, as you all know, Aura is the representation of one’s nature.”

After presenting how this method used to be important, the teacher moved on to how the smaller places, villages, cities with no great forces used this technique to develop young Aura users with the Aura that had natural healing properties.

“While developing such a unique Aura was not easy, the process was a ray of hope. Presence of even one Aura user with healing properties brought a festive atmosphere to that entire region.”

Sir Jaz was teaching the history and significance of a very important technique right now, but… I couldn’t focus on any of that.

“Hmm?”

I knew the teacher noticed that I wasn’t paying any attention to him or his words even though it was so interesting. He looked at me twice before finally stopping and looking straight at me with an upset expression.

“Miss Uriel? Is there something else you’d like to ask?”

The class looked back at me once again, and I could see my darling shaking his head with helplessness right now.

He knew what was up with me, and he couldn’t do anything about it.

“Yes teacher, there is something I’d like to ask.”

There was nothing that needed to be done in the first place.

“Oh? Please ask away then.” I could tell the confused teacher was not as happy with this as he was previously, but there’s nothing I could do about this either.

“Why…” Looking straight at him, with an almost sympathetic expression, I asked, “Why are those energy beasts so cute?”

They were pretty. Each one of them shown in the pictures seemed like beasts that could rip anything apart with their strong claws and jaws.

“??”

“That’s… cute?”

“What did she just say…?”

I mean, they all looked ferocious and could eat you alive and all. But that wasn’t anything to be worried about, now was it?

“Why energy beasts are… cute?” Sir Jaz definitely thought I was joking for a moment before he saw the look on Eon’s face and realized I was being serious.

The things that the soldiers were using were covered in blood. They were huge beasts, many of them were wild in nature and must have been let loose on the battlefield.

They weren’t too powerful from what I know, but each one of these cuties were so pretty that I couldn’t just help myself!

“Is it because they’re on the battlefield? Is it because they’re surrounded by death? Could it be a fear response? Or could it be that they’re just cute by nature?”

Seeing these cuties sparked something inside of me.

‘I wanted one of each!’

There were big puppies, there were big kittens, there were some tall lizards, and there were also some adorable birds!

I don’t even know how I should say it, but I think I was in love with each one of them!

“…”

The teacher was speechless right now, but I couldn’t help it!

I wanted my answers, I needed my answers!

And along with the answers, I also needed the location of each of those beasts’ natural habitat.

[{ “I don’t know how you do it, but we needed them!” }]

[{ “I hear you, My Lady.” }]

I don’t know how he will do it, but I’m going to use as many of our coins as I need to have him get me all of them, and more, if possible.

They looked pretty fun already. There’s no way I’m going to forget about them now~!
