As Adam gazed intently at Boris' body, a body that was slowly slumping down to the ground while still keeping that cigarette between his lips, Adam mused that this world was indeed filled with individuals who had their own twisted sense of honor and justifications. Truly, it was a mesmerizing world like no other.
Boris was a crook by nature. A criminal— a man whose very actions destroyed many individuals, preying on the lives of many others and destroying many families due to their criminal conduct.
In all the possible ways to describe him, there was one single point of conclusion — He was evil. Through and through. He was a villain worthy of nothing but death. But yet even such a villain had something worth respecting in them. A form of integrity and persona that was really hard to find in the world.
'Well. Not like I am much better than him either.'
Adam mused to himself at that thought. The only reason he did not torment Boris more nor torture him for more information was because Steven's current condition was surprisingly alright. Outside of some small roughing up there was nothing wrong with his long-time friend.
This may have changed for the worse if he had come a little later but why think of What IFs? Nothing good would really come out of it, so it was just better to drop it altogether.
'Now then, what should I do?'
Adam snapped his fingers and the soldiers who had all been asleep started getting up from their various states, their eyes still closed.
The Bratva was honestly far bigger than he had initially imagined and while Hacker claimed that Yui wouldn't mind and was ready to fight the gang if necessary, Adam knew that it was not yet time for the Wild Hunt to take on such a formidable enemy. They needed to deepen their roots first.
"They are a true army."
They were different from the ruffians he had been extinguishing until now under the orders of Yui. Through observing Boris' dreams, he had been able to see the extent of the strategy he had prepared and he had to admit one fact…
It was indeed quite scary.
'First things first, I need to steal those dragon lances and any other weapons that they may have.'
He would take everything but would leave absolutely no trace of his involvement in this place.
"Hum… How should I kill them then?"
It seemed like he was starting to have some kind of notoriety in the underworld and as things were going, people would start noticing his modus operandi if he were to follow a set path.
'Very well.'
His fingers twitched and the soldiers began to wake up from their slumber.
[Team. The enemies are in front of us. Proceed to elimination. Leave no one alive.]
All the soldiers in the radius of the entire house and beyond opened their eyes at the same time. At first, confusion was etched into their very beings, confusion about what was transpiring around them, but soon— they realized that they were surrounded by enemies on all sides. It was a do or die situation for these trained individuals and they had to fight for their lives.
In such a situation, there was only one solution in sight for them— kill before being killed.
It didn't take long for the sound of gunshots and explosions to fill the air alongside the cry of pain and rage. The sound did not spread far as Adam completely contained it with the use of his domain.
All he did was lean down on the sofa and observe calmly as those who were once their comrades killed each other in cold blood, thinking that they were defeating their enemies.
It was truly a sight worthy to be called hell. But Adam simply watched the whole charade with an impassive expression on his face. His power over dreams had increased dramatically since his piece had turned into a Rook and the things he could do increased with it as well.
A few minutes later, as all but one soldier fell down to their deaths, Adam sighed and made a gun float before pointing it at the man and shooting him down as well. Thus ending the life of his last enemy.
"They are all dead."
Two shadows appeared next to him, kneeling on either side of the sofa. He had called back the ones he had sent to protect Shuri. After all, she was currently in the bar. Nothing could happen to her with the gang members around.
"Father."
Their voices were as dark and profound as always.
"Try to devour their souls."
Black Stars, akin to the deep dark void of desolation and darkness, appeared in his eyes and the world around him changed colors in an instant.
Nodding their head in obedience, the two immediately started rushing to the corpses of the soldiers who had killed themselves in cold blood.
He waited an instant and soon, a slight feeling of euphoria filled his entire body due to the machinations of his children. It only lasted for a split instant. Less than an instant even, but it was an unmistakable feeling, one that could never be replicated by anything else.
This was a feeling nearly similar to the one he felt in the Dreamscape. But to a far far weaker degree.
"Genesis. This answers one of my theories."
The individuals in Dreamscape were the equivalent of the Soul body. So killing them only left pure energy known as the Dreamforce by many.
Here though… he mused a little to connect all the dots. He felt the power he had absorbed was slightly impure as if it was mixed with many small elements that were not present in the Dreamscape and especially the Dreamforce that radiated in that place. This was most likely the ego of the person that he or rather his children had devoured.
'Devouring souls in the real world should be avoided or minimized at all costs.'
He tapped his finger and shook his head, "Leave that one alone."
They were just about to devour Boris but he stopped them from doing the deed. Then, standing up from his seat, he bit his own finger and let his blood flow before calling down the soul of Boris from the void beyond.
As he saw his body pay the price, he realized that he paid no price for the previous souls. Either they did not require a price because they were too weak or no price was taken because he had become stronger.
'Will I get knocked out for hours again?'
Since he became stronger he doubted that such a phenomenon would happen again. But Boris was also far stronger than the two Fernandez brothers had been. He was a Gold ranked Hunter, after all.
Thinking so, he took his phone and called Marlene to come and fetch Steven and her sister from this place. For now, he had better things to do with his time.
"Though, this is not a charity. Call your mother and show her a photo of what happened here when you come. Tell her, I wish to talk with her."
"...You already dealt with the problem?"
"Efficiency is my motto, darling."
He closed the call and sighed to himself. And then he looked intently at the floating
soul of an interesting opponent.
All he had to do was loot what had to be looted and move on.
