Global Beast Mastery: Only I Can See the Hints
Chapter 581 - 581: Callum's WorryCallum glanced at Charles. He wasn’t about to let this matter go so easily. If he hadn’t shown up earlier, based on how things had been developing, Charles would have been severely injured, even though his life wouldn’t be in immediate danger. At the very least, Charles would need some time to recover.
Thinking this, Callum spoke up: “It’s true that this has nothing to do with Charles, but you did lay a hand on him. If I hadn’t come, Charles would have been severely hurt by you.”
Everett immediately rebutted, “That’s not true! I would have stopped! And look at Charles now—he’s perfectly fine, not a scratch on him!”
His statement implied that he hadn’t had the chance to inflict serious harm on Charles, so there was no need for any compensation or apology. As a ninth-level Beast Master, Everett couldn’t possibly apologize to a mere fifth-level Beast Master.
Letting this matter go without further escalation was already his greatest concession.
At that moment, some of the Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh, who had been watching the scene, began to advise Callum to stop pursuing the matter. They pointed out that now the Beast Masters from the Abyssal Depths had witnessed the conflict, and continuing down this path would result in the Haunted Marsh losing face.
They argued that Charles was only a fifth-level Beast Master, and since he hadn’t been harmed, Everett’s actions were merely part of his investigation into the truth. There was no real damage done to Charles.
Ignoring these pleas, Callum continued to stare at Everett, waiting for him to respond.
Everett fell silent for a moment before speaking slowly: “Although this matter doesn’t directly involve Charles, he saw everything. We at Ancient Academy need his cooperation to investigate and find the true culprit, William.”
Callum’s pupils shifted, his interest piqued. “What do you mean by that?”
Everett smiled, and although he’d said he would apologize, he would also use the excuse of needing Charles’s help in the investigation to prevent him from entering the Infinite Isles forest. Moreover, because of Charles, the talented Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh would lose some of their spots, and this issue was likely to draw unanimous support from other major factions.
He was confident that his stance would win him support.
As expected, as soon as Everett finished speaking, others immediately voiced their agreement:
“The murderer who killed so many of Ancient Academy’s students is still at large, and Charles, as a witness to the entire event, indeed has a responsibility to cooperate with Ancient Academy’s investigation until everything is clarified.”
“Yes, yes, there’s nothing that can be done. If the murderer isn’t found soon, others might get hurt as well.”
“Exactly, this is also for the good of the Abyssal Depths Beast Masters. After all, you don’t want to face that person, William, in the future, do you?”
Apart from Callum, who represented the underground black market faction of the Haunted Marsh, the other major factions quickly reached a consensus.
From their perspective, Charles spreading the details about the Infinite Isles and inciting the Abyssal Depths Beast Masters to protest was a clear provocation.
This was a direct challenge to their superior status!
They had to teach Charles a lesson, or else such incidents would only increase in the future. To avoid more damage to their interests, these factions all sided with Everett.
Callum’s expression changed. He took a deep breath and said firmly, “This is impossible! The fact is, it was the people from Ancient Academy who came to cause trouble for Charles…”
Before Callum could finish, Everett cut him off. “They’re all dead now. The only one left alive is a sixth-level Beast Master who has lost both arms. They’ve already paid the price for their actions.”
The atmosphere grew tense. Callum was standing alone against the other major factions from the Haunted Marsh.
Originally, he had hoped to get Charles some compensation, ideally convincing Everett to give Charles some benefits, while making sure others understood that Charles should not be trifled with.
He hadn’t expected that in such a short time, everyone would align in support of Everett’s proposal.
Now, even though Callum was a ninth-level Beast Master, it was difficult for him to go against so many people.
Charles took a deep breath. He quickly processed everything in his mind. It became clear that the reason behind this was their concern for future profits—they needed to teach him a lesson and send a warning to others.
Had these Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh never considered this? The matter of the Infinite Isles had always been an issue for the Abyssal Depths; it had nothing to do with them.
Trying to delay him under the pretense of helping with the investigation, preventing him from entering the Infinite Isles forest, and thus missing his opportunity, was impossible.
Charles wasn’t going to waste time. If he wanted to increase his strength, he had to seize this opportunity. The chance to form a contract with a Divine Beast was rare, and if he missed it, he might never get another chance!
With this in mind, Charles decided to take out the [Substitute Mask for the Ten-Person Council]. He remembered Cuny had said that it was a symbol of status, meaning he was a substitute member of the Ten-Person Council.
No matter which major faction it was, none of them could ignore this status!
At that moment, all the ninth-level Beast Masters present quickly turned their heads, looking toward a corner of the forest.
In the darkness of the night, the moonlight shone down, and the light in that corner seemed to twist.
A figure materialized, a mysterious person wearing a white mask, who spoke in a tone laced with mockery:
“You all really have no shame, tsk tsk tsk.”
In an instant, the faces of all the ninth-level Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh, along with the eighth-level Beast Masters, including Callum, changed.
None of them dared to respond to the mocking words of the masked mysterious person. They all knew who this person was—the most powerful of the Ten in the Ethereal Grove, codenamed Ten, an absolute powerhouse!
Isolde waved his hand and directly addressed the people from the Haunted Marsh factions, speaking:
“Alright, I will be selecting the participants for this entry into the Infinite Isles forest. As long as you’re not too old and you’re a young Beast Master of level five or six, you’ll have the chance to go in.”
“Whether you’re a Beast Master from the Haunted Marsh or the Abyssal Depths, you’re all part of the Ethereal Grove’s Beast Masters. If you meet the criteria, you can enter!”
Upon hearing Isolde’s words, some were happy while others were worried.
The ones who were happy were, of course, the Beast Masters from the Abyssal Depths, while those who were worried were also from their ranks. After all, compared to the talented Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh, the Beast Masters from the Abyssal Depths were much weaker. They would have far fewer spots than the Haunted Marsh.
The people from the Haunted Marsh factions were also somewhat dissatisfied, as this made the blockade they had set up earlier seem like a joke.
Although there was some discontent, no one dared to voice it directly. Facing Isolde’s arrangements, they all expressed their agreement.
Once things were settled, Isolde dismissed everyone, telling them to go back to whatever they had been doing.
Callum glanced at Charles, then at Isolde. He felt a bit puzzled.
In his mind, Isolde was always one to prefer avoiding work, rarely participating in many matters. In situations like this, she would usually keep to the shadows, ensuring that nothing unexpected happened, but not actively getting involved.
Yet, Callum didn’t make the connection between Charles and Isolde. To him, there was no real link between the two. One was a member of the Ten in the Ethereal Grove, a member of the Ten-Person Council, and the other was a level-five Beast Master from a small country in the Abyssal Depths.
Even if Charles was Ezra’s disciple with exceptional talent, it was hard to imagine any connection between him and Isolde.
Callum slowly said to Charles, “Had I known you were coming, I would’ve reached out to you first, and had you use the underground black market’s spot to enter the forest. That would have been no trouble at all.”
“But now, I’m afraid all the talented Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh will think the spots were reduced because of you. They might end up targeting you.”
Charles shrugged nonchalantly and replied, “Uncle Callum, don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
Callum sighed and slowly said, “The people here are all talented sixth-level Beast Masters, and some have even awakened as geniuses from slumber. A Divine Beast can make people lose their minds.”
“Charles, just be careful. If you need help, come find me. Also, I’ll speak to the talented ones from the underground black market and make sure they keep an eye out for you and look after you when they can.”
“As long as you don’t covet a Divine Beast, the danger isn’t too great. There are plenty of other valuable things that can help increase your strength, apart from the Divine Beast.”
Callum gave him many pieces of advice, and Charles could only nod in agreement.
In truth, he had come here for the sole purpose of contracting that mystical beast, which he suspected was a Divine Beast. Otherwise, it would have been a waste of the map in his possession.
Although he was only a fifth-level Beast Master right now, he had an advantage over others.
After everyone else left the forest, Charles didn’t head to the town. Instead, he found a secluded spot and spoke to the air behind him:
“Thanks for your help this time.”
Isolde’s figure appeared, and he casually removed his white mask, his eyes gleaming with curiosity as he looked at Charles. He then asked, “What would you have done if I hadn’t shown up? I saw you were about to take something out. Could you tell me what it was?”
Isolde was genuinely curious about what Charles had planned to resolve the situation earlier. After all, those people represented the major factions of the Haunted Marsh, and they certainly wouldn’t have let Charles off so easily.
