The Wolfgang Empire trembled under the weight of chaos.

Once a proud and unyielding land, home to the mighty Wind Wolves, it now bore the scars of relentless monster waves. Dungeons, long contained by the empire’s magical barriers, had ruptured, spewing forth endless tides of beasts. The border cities had become fortresses of desperation, with adventurers, mercenaries, and the empire’s soldiers fighting to hold back the tide.

And amid the raging storm of battle, two figures cut their way through the darkness—Eris, the Frostwind Princess, and Sera, the Shadowblade Assassin Queen.

Their arrival at the second major battlefield, a border outpost named Ferun’s Stand, was met with cheers and renewed resolve. The defending forces, a mixture of the Wolfgang Empire’s soldiers and various mercenary bands, had been on the verge of collapse. Hundreds of monsters, from low-tier goblins and orcs to towering ogre lords, clawed at the fortress walls.

A battered captain, his fur matted with blood and sweat, turned as he sensed the shift in the wind. He barely had time to register the sudden, overwhelming gust before a howling gale tore through the battlefield.

“Wind Domain: Severing Tempest!”

Eris stepped forward, raising her sword high as the wind howled to life. Blades of air, sharp as divine steel, materialized in an instant. With a single swing, she unleashed them upon the monster horde.

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

Hundreds of cuts crisscrossed the battlefield, slicing through entire waves of monsters. The air itself shimmered, infused with her power. The once-unstoppable tide of beasts recoiled as limbs and heads were severed in a blinding flurry of wind.

The soldiers gawked in awe.

“She cut through them like they were nothing…” one muttered in disbelief.

But before anyone could celebrate, a roaring ogre lord charged forward, its massive club raised to crush the nearest group of defenders.

SHNK!

A shadow blurred, and in the next instant, the ogre lord collapsed, a neat slit running across its throat. The mercenaries blinked in shock, their eyes darting around to locate the attacker—

Only for Sera to materialize behind them, already moving to her next target.

“Stay sharp,” she murmured, vanishing once more.

All around the battlefield, shadows flickered unnaturally. The monsters screamed, their voices cutting off mid-roar as they fell, their throats or hearts pierced by daggers they never saw coming.

A massive hobgoblin shaman, cloaked in dark energy, raised its staff to unleash a spell—

SHUNK!

A dagger pierced its skull from behind. Its eyes widened before it crumpled.

Sera’s voice whispered like a ghost’s breath.

“Not today.”

With Eris tearing through enemies like a raging storm and Sera striking from the shadows, the defense turned from desperate survival to total domination.

“Push forward!” the battered captain roared, his warriors rallying behind him.

And push they did.

After stabilizing the border, Eris and Sera wasted no time. They moved deeper, leaving the recovering soldiers behind as they advanced toward the heart of the Wolfgang Empire. Every town, every village along their path was a battlefield.

At Korrin Vale, a farming town, the streets were overrun with nightmarish beasts—mutated wolves with jagged crystalline spines, their eyes glowing with dark energy. The townspeople had barricaded themselves inside homes and warehouses, screaming as the beasts tried to break through.

Eris acted first.

“Wind Domain: Divine Barricade!”

A massive wall of wind erupted, separating the villagers from the creatures. The beasts lunged at it, but the barrier shredded them to pieces, their blood scattering like dust in a storm.

“Clear them out!” she commanded.

Sera was already on it.

She warped into the middle of the pack, her form a mere flicker of movement. The moment she landed, daggers flashed—and within seconds, twenty of the creatures collapsed, their hearts pierced in a single instant.

The remaining ones turned on her, howling—only for Sera to disappear into the shadows, her movements so fluid she might as well have been a phantom.

Moments later, silent death followed.

SHNK. SHNK. SHNK.

One by one, the creatures fell, their bodies hitting the ground before their minds even registered their own deaths.

The battle ended in less than five minutes.

A trembling villager peeked from his hiding spot. “A-Are they gone?”

Eris smiled, lowering her blade. “Yes. It’s safe now.”

A relieved cheer erupted from the survivors.

As Eris and Sera continued through the empire, the further they traveled, the worse the situation became.

Villages had been razed. Towns had been emptied, their inhabitants either slain or missing. The deeper they went, the denser the dark energy became, an unnatural aura choking the mana of the land.

And then, they saw it.

The third strongest city of Wolfgang empire.

Or rather—what remained of it.

Dark clouds churned overhead. The once grand silver walls were now scarred and cracked, covered in claw marks and arcane burns.

And worse—

The city gates were wide open.

No guards. No resistance. Only the gaping maw of darkness, inviting them inside.

Eris and Sera exchanged a glance.

“…This feels like a trap,” Sera murmured.

Eris tightened her grip on her sword. “Of course it is.”

She stepped forward.

Sera sighed, rolling her shoulders before vanishing into the shadows once more. “Then let’s spring it.”

Together, they entered the abyss.

Eris and Sera stepped through the ruined gates of the city, their senses on high alert.

The once-proud city, home to thousands, was now eerily silent. Not a single civilian could be seen, and the streets were littered with debris—shattered homes, overturned carts, and weapons left abandoned as if their wielders had simply vanished.

A cold wind howled through the ruined alleys, carrying the stench of blood and something worse—corruption.

Eris frowned as she walked forward, the wind responding to her unease. Something was deeply wrong.

“Where is everyone?” she murmured.

Sera materialized beside her, her form fading in and out of the shadows. “Dead. Or worse.”

Eris’ ears twitched at that. “Worse?”

Sera’s honey colored eyes glowed faintly under her hood. “They’re not here, but I can feel it—this city isn’t empty. It’s watching us.”

Eris tightened her grip on her sword. Those were citizens of her empire, she couldn’t help but feel distressed seeing this scene, something was building inside her and she decided not to contain it.

Then—

CLANG!

A loud metallic sound echoed from deeper within the city. A dull, heavy noise, like chains dragging against stone.

Both warriors froze.

Then the noise came again. And again. And again.

Eris felt it in her bones first—a pressure. It coiled around her skin like invisible threads, the weight of something powerful pressing against her.

Then, from the darkness, they emerged.
