Governor Knox
Thud Thud Thud!
‘They have arrived,’ said Onaz, hearing them pushing the door. Her voice was even, but I could sense the relief in it.
Hell, I am relieved. I want them to break the door immediately and come here to rescue us.
They are doing that, even trying against the wall, but there is resistance. First, it is from the enchantments laid in the building, as well as the enemies’ skills.
I began to push the Governor’s Presence against them and could feel the skills weakening, but there were several, with a few very strong.
Still, even a little bit would help.
Hun!
I was relieved that something was going our way when I sensed the change.
The assassins begin to activate their skills. These feel more powerful than the ones they had used. If they are using them, it means the other two invisible assassins are likely to have activated their strongest skills as well.
For a moment, there was no sound before the assassins moved.
They moved with a zeal and force much greater than before, which scared me. Rightly so, the next moment, I saw a head flying.
He died to protect me.
His name was Farab; he was a sweet middle-aged man who loved carving wooden figurines in his spare time. I have one of his pieces in the office, and now, he is dead.
Even a healer wouldn’t be able to bring him back from this death.
It filled me with pain, and I could do nothing but bear it.
Blava appeared in front of Kruabar, while the masked assassin stood before Osward.
She seemed different this time. Her change had raised all the hair on my body.
She attacked as she appeared. The attack seemed slower than before, but it had reached the shield instantly.
I thought Kruabar would stop the dagger with his shield like he had done so many times, but to my shock, the dagger simply avoided it when I was sure it would clash.
Kruabar took a step left immediately as the dagger moved toward his neck.
Rip!
He avoided it, but not without a cost. It cuts through his shoulder, and the wound looks bad.
Thankfully, it ends now.
The brief clash had given Osward enough time to cast a spell, and it had already reached her while she was dealing with Kruabar.
I thought she would retreat. Even if she did, some of the sharp stone spikes would hit her, but once more, to my shock, she moved forward with her dagger, moving toward the spikes gracefully.
Clang, Clang, Clang!
The next second, I heard the sound of stone clashing against the metal as she gracefully deflected every spike coming at her.
It shocked me, but seeing the Kruabar sword before her relieved me.
Ting!
However, the next second, I heard a melodic ting as her dagger tapped against the blade before she agilely jumped over, appearing in front of me like a ghost.
I could see the smile on her face, and her eyes filled with vengeance that wanted to burn everything.
“Die whore!” she said and pushed her dagger toward me.
I looked at it and couldn’t help but sigh internally. I am going to die. I do not fear death, but only regret it, as I would not be able to serve Master Silver anymore.
I would have liked to live a little longer. It will take at least a few months to finish restoring the city and the lives of its people.
They have suffered so much; they deserve a good life.
Though I know it will happen. Master Silver will choose someone wise to make those things happen, which relieved me.
Aside from that, I have no regrets.
I lived the life and accomplished things that a whore never did. It inspired many girls, and I hope they will use it as fuel to improve their lives.
I am ready for death, and it has filled me with a strange peace that I hadn’t felt before.
Hun!
The dagger reached me, and I looked straight without closing my eyes when someone suddenly appeared in front of me.
To my horror, it is Onaz. She had appeared in front of the dagger.
Puch!
I opened my mouth and moved my hand to push her away from me when I heard the wet sound.
“Onaz!” I screamed, seeing the dagger piercing into her heart, with blood pooling into her chest, turning her clothes red the next moment.
“You are next!” said the killer.
She removed the dagger that was dripping with Onaz’s blood and swung it toward me, but suddenly, she leaped back, avoiding Kruabar’s sword and Osward’s spell.
I caught Onaz’s falling body and gently laid her down while the sounds of blades intensified around me.
“Why?” I asked her as I fumblingly fed her an essence health potion with a healing spell covering her the next moment. Still, I could feel her pulse rapidly weakening,
“You cannot die; the girls still need you to inspire them,” she replied, her voice trembling with fierce, defiant love.
I hated it. Hated those words. Hated how right she was.
It’s what made her do this. What made her step forward when it should have been me?
I was ready. I wanted it. She shouldn’t have—
“You shouldn’t have,” I choked out, my voice breaking as tears carved burning trails down my cheeks.
She smiled.
I could see there was not a hint of regret in her eyes. Even in this state, she does not regret her actions.
Seeing it, something broke within me and came out.
It brightened her eyes, and the smile on her face widened. She touched my face with a cold hand before it fell down, and she slowly closed her eyes.
I wanted to shake. Instead, I looked up at her killer, who appeared in front of me once more.
I felt rage like never before. It is far greater than the fire of vengeance in her eyes. f
“You will pay!” I said and gathered all the aura before pushing it into the skill.
There was resistance, but it broke through, like my veins, that started to pop and fill the skills, making it stronger than it ever was.
I had awakened the aura, but there was not a hint of joy in my heart.
She took the joy away.
Leaving only rage, which I pushed into the skill, and focused only on her. I want her dead; it is the only thought raging in my heart right now.
…
Blava Moor
Rip!
The mage avoided my blade, which I was able to cut across her stomach before I retreated, and she sent a frost blast at me.
It had been a few seconds since I dealt with the second whore and tried to move at first whore, but these bastards were stopping me.
I have cut in every part of their bodies, but they are still standing.
“If you don’t move away now, you won’t be able to ever,” I said to the mage. “Make me,” she replied to my frustration, and the next moment, Fire Blast came.
I dodged it and disappeared. I moved toward the woman from an unguarded angle, but the orc moved with it, and the mage’s spells followed.
‘I didn’t have much time. I need to kill the whore soon,’ I thought.
They are very close to breaking in; my skills and the enchantments won’t be able to stop them for long. In a few seconds, they will break through.
So, I pushed decided to go all out. Push through the full power of Dance of Silken Thorn.
I don’t like to do that because of the strain it takes on me, but I don’t care now. I need to kill the whore, and it is the only thing that matters.
I immediately become faster, my movement graceful, and my thoughts agile.
The orc attacked me as he appeared in front of me while the mage launched another barrage of Stone Spikes.
Clang Clang Clang!
I avoided the sword by inches, to the surprise of the orc, while at the same time, my dagger moved and began to deflect through the last attack.
Hun!
Finally, I deflected the last one and was about to take the step toward the whore when a suppressive wave came out.
It came from the whore.
‘A whore awakened the aura!’ I thought in shock. I shouldn’t be shocked.
Seeing the whore that killed, my brother had awakened it, and so has the whore that is fighting outside, which I am going kill after I kill this first whore.
It is extremely hard to awaken the aura; in the powerful organization of Night Manor, a select few have done it, but here, three did.
Not people, but filthy whores.
I froze for a moment before I moved, appearing in front of her with an even greater desire to kill her than before, when she turned to me with eyes filled with such rage that it had raised all the hair on my body.
“You will pay!” she said.
I laughed and was about to swing my blade to finish her off when I felt the skill that instantly suppressed everything: my body, my soul, my skills.
It is a presence skill. It’s powerful; those of the ruling class always are, but my class is also powerful.
It is a heritage class.
It barely affected me earlier, but now, it is suppressing everything: my body, soul, and skills.
“I will kill you!” I roared. It had become even more important that I kill her now. She had just awakened the aura, but could already use it with her skill.
Extremely few could do that within seconds of awakening, but she has.
If she were to grow, she could become very dangerous. I have seen what people could do with aura, and I don’t want this whore to reach that level.
I need to rip it out of the ground before that happens.
So, I moved to finish her off, fighting through the suppression.
My blade reached halfway when the bloody spell came at me, and so did the sword of the half-orc.
I wanted to push through, but I knew it wouldn’t work. My dagger would reach her, but I wouldn’t be able to push it into her body before attacks hit me.
So, I retreated, dodging the sword and Frost Blast, before disappearing.
Hun!
To my surprise, the spells followed.
It hadn’t happened before, once I disappeared. They couldn’t sense me unless I got really close, but now, they seemed to be sensing me.
‘That Fucking Whore!’ I cursed and dodged the attack, but another came.
If there was any doubt, it had disappeared.
I moved toward them, dodging the spell, when the half-orc attacked, even before I released myself. I could dodge and defend, but I retreated with the spell backing him and tried again on a different side.
Hun!
It was when I felt the suppression increasing. It had been growing slowly, and I hadn’t noticed it.
The whore was getting better with aura by the second, which made my desire to kill her even greater, and I pushed myself toward the whore.
Clang!
The shield came forward immediately, and with it came the big lightning bolt, which I had defended before, avoiding the shield.
Instantly, the spells came again, and then the sword, and I had to retreat once more.
If I wasn’t being suppressed, I would have done a little better, but the whore is suppressing me, and every moment, the suppression is getting worse.
Clang Rip Clang!
I crushed through the attacks before giving another cut to the half-orc on the arm, and about to move once more, but I was attacked again by that bloody mage.
‘Bamis, what are you doing?’ I asked angrily. He has one job to keep the mage busy, but he is failing.
“I am trying, but this bitch is a fast caster!” he replied with the same excuse.
I looked at others; they were fighting the guards. Earlier, despite the small numbers, we had the edge, but since the whore had awakened the aura, it boosted their morale.
Now, they are fighting like they want to tear us apart.
Puch!
The sword and spell came once more as I went toward them, and I was defeated when I heard the wet sound.
I turned and saw one of my men had Stone Spikes piercing through his body.
‘This bitch!’ I cursed; she was not only dealing with us but also attacking my men.
I appeared in front of her, wanting to rip her head off, but she blasted a huge fireball toward me before sending a needle storm.
Bam!
I defended and dodged before moving toward her once more when I heard the loud bang. I didn’t have to turn to know what had happened. They had broken through the door.
‘He wasn’t supposed to come so fast!’ said Bamis in my mind.
“Protect the Governor; kill all assassins!” a booming voice rang out, and I felt the skills.
Lv. 30.
The skills are different; they are city guard skills. Focused on restrictions, and now, they have been activated on me.
If it were before, I wouldn’t have cared, but now, with the suppression of her skill, other skills have also started affecting me.
I turned and saw a man in a blue uniform coming toward us, leading the people who had already started to attack my people.
‘We have failed. We should escape,’ said Bamis, and I wanted to reject it.
I haven’t killed the whore, I need to kill her, but when I see the people pouring in, I know I have to give up on that; for today at least.
Bang!
‘Retreat!’ I ordered, and the next moment, the window blasted apart, and smoke filled the room as I began to run toward it.
Immediately, the enemy responded, but we moved quickly, utilizing our skills to the fullest.
In less than five seconds, we were out of the hall.
“We have lost two,” informed Bamis. Losses are part of the mission, but it fills me with deep anger, knowing I had failed in the mission.
I didn’t say anything and moved with my team; they were chasing us, but they wouldn’t be able to catch us.
‘Blava, are you finished?’ asked Yark. ‘Failed,’ I replied and prepared for what was coming.
‘We will talk about that later; right now, come and help against this bitch!’ he invited, to my surprise.
Yark is powerful, so I am not his match, even with heritage skills, but he is asking for my help here. He is a prideful man; he wouldn’t have done it if he hadn’t desperately needed it.
