Chapter 1128 Unexpected guest

Chapter 1128 Unexpected guest

The absence of suitable training areas forced Khan to ignore any physical workout to focus on his mind.

The new flat's functions were as iffy as Captain Lochport had described, with menus occasionally glitching and flickering, but its screens were stable enough to portray the alien rune. Khan could recreate the same training conditions as the ship's, diving back into that tortuous workout.

The cycle of nightmares and splitting headaches resumed, putting Khan out of commission for most of his stay in the new flat. The soldiers always delivered food and drinks to his door, but he often forgot to pick them up.

That behavior would usually ring all kinds of alarms, especially since Khan was no ordinary soldier. However, Garret and Gordon were used to those training shenanigans and took care of reassuring Captain Lochport and his forces, ensuring that no one disturbed Khan.

Luckily, Khan had virtually no duty, for now, at least. He had already given his input on everything that needed to be done, and his subordinates could handle those tasks without requiring his presence.

Another lucky point came from Khan's training. He couldn't focus on his new body, but some memories studied during that seclusion ended up involving it, teaching him more about the Great Old One's incredible bloodline. Nothing was revolutionary, but it still provided more than what blind exploration and poking around could.

A third lucky break came from Khan's mind. His brain was finally getting used to the tortuous procedure, expanding its limits and growing more suitable for that absorption. Khan could study more memories for longer while requiring fewer and shorter breaks, and he didn't hesitate to abuse that new resilience.

That uninterrupted training obviously worsened Khan's appearance, but he didn't notice it until a notification reached his flat. He had long since lost track of time but expected the unusual event to have something to do with the White Mouse crew's arrival. Yet, it turned out to be about matters that demanded his presence.

The sudden news took Khan by surprise, but one look at his phone told him it shouldn't have. His family had warned him about that upcoming event a few days ago. Khan had simply never checked his device during his training session.

Khan hurried into the flat's shower, removing the dried sweat and dirt before changing into clean clothes. He donned the usual Thilku attire with the upper part of his uniform open but skipped tearing off his sleeves that day.

Close to a week had passed since Khan had isolated himself in his new quarters, enough time for the White Mouse crew to reach Nott Station. Except a far more important party had preceded it, and the atmosphere inside the space station showed it.

Khan dismissed the soldiers outside his flat before hurrying through the space station. He knew where the teleport was, but that cramped room was no place to keep such an important figure, so he went for the hangar nearby.

Khan's hunch turned out to be on point. The hangar was crowded and devoid of ships, with many lines of soldiers neatly arranged in orderly lines that kept away the curious bystanders. It seemed a celebrity had teleported to Nott Station, and that wasn't far from the truth.

Gordon and Captain Lochport stood on the opposite side of the orderly lines, interacting with the beautiful figure before a team of noble guards. Princess Rachel Montares wore a simple military uniform and smiled while talking to the two men, but the silence that spread through the hangar brought her eyes to the place's entrance.

Khan's arrival couldn't go unnoticed, and the audience fell silent when he appeared. He didn't stop, either, walking through the path created by the lines of soldiers to reach the newcomer. Gorgon and Captain Lochport also made way for him, allowing him to stand face-to-face with the Princess.

The noble guards behind Princess Montares wore military salutes, while Rachel performed an elegant bow despite the absence of skirts or dresses. Her smiling expression grew more genuine when her greeting ended, adding a melodious happiness to her following words.

"Prince Khan," Princess Montares called. "It has been too long."

"Princess Rachel," Khan responded, announcing their good relationship to the audience through his choice of words. "I apologize for neglecting my phone. I would have received you personally if I had read about the news earlier."

"I'm the one who should apologize for the sudden visit," Rachel announced. "I wouldn't have forgiven myself if I disturbed your work."

"You didn't," Khan reassured.

"You are always too kind, Prince Khan," Rachel uttered. "Though, would you hate me if I abused your kindness a bit longer?"

"Princess, you are a welcome guest," Khan exclaimed, and Princess Montares stepped forward, only stopping when she was at the distance limit imposed by public decorum.

"Then, if it's not a problem," Princess Montares said, "Could you indulge me in a tour of Nott Station?"

Khan was familiar with those political talks. They were mostly a façade for the audience and the network, meant to feed rumors, start new ones, or announce certain alliances. Rachel seemed to enjoy them a bit too much, but Khan considered her a friend, so he played along and offered his elbow.

To most of the women in the audience's dismay, Princess Montares gracefully seized Khan's elbow, letting him guide her through Nott Station. Mary was among the crowd but reached the same conclusion as her fellow female soldiers. None of them had any hope with Prince Khan now that a Princess had made her move.

Truthfully, as much as Khan had decided to indulge Rachel, her behavior remained problematic. She had to know what the network would say once the news got out. That wasn't their first time acting like that in public, but by then, more than half a year had passed since Khan had shown himself with Monica.

Of course, the tour of the space station wasn't the place to discuss those serious topics. Khan and Rachel actually didn't talk at all while navigating the various corridors and areas.

The number of workers had diminished during that week, but the place still didn't suit a Princess. It was too dirty and messy for someone of her caliber and reputation. Yet, Princess Montares didn't show any discomfort and made sure to look pleased throughout the tour.

Khan didn't dare to bring Rachel to his quarters, especially with the crowd following them, so he ended the tour when the two reached one of the new meeting areas, establishing some privacy.

At that point, Rachel let go of Khan's elbow and remained by the closed door while he prepared a couple of drinks and placed them on the rectangular interactive table. The two still didn't speak, but Khan soon broke that silence.

"What are you doing here?" Khan asked, trying not to sound aggressive or cold.

"I happened to be nearby and decided to pay you a visit," Rachel explained. "It has been months since we last talked."

"You used a teleport," Khan pointed out, glancing at Rachel to show an unconvinced smirk.

"The teleport was nearby," Rachel said, playing innocent while approaching the drink Khan had prepared for her. "The one I took. I was close to it and decided to use it."

Rachel picked up her glass and sipped the booze while Khan shook his head. She could have done a far better job at lying, especially considering her education, but that explanation wasn't even close to an excuse.

"No claims about being one of my main business partners this time?" Khan teased, patting Rachel's head. "I'd almost think you were trying to crack a joke if I didn't know you any better."

Rachel would typically escape Khan's grasp immediately but only lowered her head now. Her reaction surprised Khan and the following intensified that feeling. Rachel put down her drink, reaching for the hand on her head to seize and lower it.

"I was also worried about you," Rachel timidly admitted, holding Khan's hand between hers while her eyes studied its many scars.
