CHAOS HEIR

Chapter 1101 Nagging

Chapter 1101 Nagging

It was undeniable that Khan had become less overbearing after the break-up. He was still unreasonable. He was still a leader, but a profound sense of defeat had taken root inside his mind.

Chuwei's events perfectly showcased that change. Khan would have been fine leaving the mission to the planet's lifeforms if they turned out to be worthier than him. He was okay not being the main character of that story as long as his replacement defeated the Nak's enemy and kept his loved ones safe by rescuing the universe from that threat.

The mission was what mattered, while Khan saw himself as expendable. His life was an acceptable price to pay to achieve that impossible success. In a way, his loved ones had left him to allow him to make that decision without second thoughts.

Of course, Monica and George would beat Khan to a pulp if they knew his thoughts had reached that conclusion. They were aware Khan needed to be reckless to succeed in his mission, but neither wanted him to lose his life in the process.

However, Khan often saw the glass half empty, and the undeniable sad repercussions of his pursuit of power seemed to confirm that perspective. He had to lose at life to win against the scarlet eyes.

After all, Khan's advantages came from his traumas and his happiness from the blood on his hands, and he was tired of spilling it. The universe didn't seem to have enough of it to provide any lasting joy in his life.

"You allowed weakness to exist in your life, Heir to the Nak's Chaos," The voice announced. "You pursued inferior goals and sacrificed yourself for them."

Monica's image on the lake twisted, depicting an expression she had never shown but that looked quite possible. Khan felt the deep fear radiating from that beautiful but frail figure, and he knew he was its source.

"To what end?" The voice asked. "Only to lose again and again."

More figures appeared on the lake. Khan saw George and a familiar dark woman with glowing white eyes. The green canvas made her white hair flutter in the wind, exactly as Khan remembered.

"You did everything they asked," The voice continued, "Only to end up in defeat. We won't be like them. We have no weaknesses. We will give you the victory you fought for, Nak's Heir."

Even without the lake's hypnosis, Khan would agree with that statement. Most of what he had done after leaving Nitis matched Liiza's last request. She had asked him to grow and mature past the lost kid to see whether their love could exist beyond their codependency.

Liiza wanted Khan to remove his curse and explore life so that they could see where their feelings stood without their toxic traits. Yet, the exact opposite had happened.

Khan had tried, enduring the guilt of moving on and the dirty sensation he experienced whenever he held someone else. He had even reached the point of feeling a different type of love, only to return to his starting point.

Eight years had passed since Nitis, but Khan was still the same. His power had increased by leaps and bounds, but his situation didn't change. His toxic traits were still there, enhanced by all the compromises and dirty sensations he had forced himself to accept. Moreover, he was alone, and the solution to his curse had yet to appear in sight.

'What was the point of leaving you and going through all that?' Khan wondered, experiencing thoughts that sounded guided by a foreign influence. 'Was it just to end up here and help the Great Old One?'

A life of struggles culminating in becoming a sacrificial lamb sounded like the saddest story in the world, but Khan almost felt peace in it. It wouldn't be a bad end. He had experienced more than what most people felt in their entire lifetimes, and most of that was painful.

However, Khan had received plenty of happiness, too. Definitely more than what he had ever expected or hoped to experience. He was only twenty-five, but his life had been full, so ending it there wouldn't be too bad.

Nevertheless, some unconscious parts of Khan's mind were still in his control. He somehow noticed Jenna's absence on the lake, and his brain formulated an instinctive explanation.

In many ways, Jenna had taken the role Khan usually assumed in his relationships. She was spoiled, sure, but Khan's happiness was always her priority. No matter the situation, Jenna would tell Khan to do what he needed to do, even if that meant burning the world to obtain a joyful second.

As soon as Khan realized that, his perspective toward his previous thoughts changed. Yes, his current situation was sad. His many struggles had ultimately culminated in his emotional defeat, but none of his loved ones would accept him forsaking his own happiness.

George had to swallow his pride to prioritize his future child, but his deep shame confirmed his affection for Khan. Besides, George had always backed him, often going against his interests to make his life easier.

Monica had left Khan to remove his human limits, but the decision had probably hurt her more than him. After all, she had spent her best years prioritizing him and had even sacrificed her status to help him in the Harbor. Truthfully, Monica would still do all that again if Khan asked.

As for Liiza, she probably was the craziest of them all. Khan still recalled when she almost killed Azni due to a misunderstanding and the risks she took to uncover his nightmare's secrets. She had taken his pain upon herself, saving him in ways he didn't think possible.

'I still have to give the Nele a planet,' Khan thought as some awareness returned to his mind. He could hear his element rage, but his mind ignored it as his eyes rose toward the black sea above.

"Is it six?" Khan muttered as a single tear ran down his left eye. "No. It should be over seven months."

The lake brightened, trying to reclaim its pull on Khan, but its influence had no effect. His aura intensified, conveying his destructive properties, while his demeanor remained peaceful.

"It took me seven months to get over you," Khan announced. "I really loved you."

"Chaos' Heir," The voice called, understanding what had happened. "This is unwise."

"I've never been the smart type," Khan revealed, lowering his eyes to fix his chilling gaze on the lake. "You know. I was truly ready to give up. I guess that's heartbreak for you."

"So," The voice said. "You have decided war."

"Trust me," Khan exclaimed. "It's better than hearing my exes' nagging from beyond the grave. They wouldn't let me stay dead even if I tried."

"Besides," Khan continued, stretching his left arm to his side while a thunderous noise resounded throughout the air bubble. "I don't remember giving you permission to mess with my head. I'll burn your planet as punishment."
