After Divorce, I Can Hear the Future

Chapter 39: Beautiful Car, Beautiful Woman

Chapter 39: Beautiful Car, Beautiful Woman

At 3:00 PM, Branch Manager Liu stood at the door with a beaming smile, watching the two leave.

It was a good day for him—his branch had added $7.86 million in foreign exchange and gained a high-end client with assets exceeding 100 million.

On the way back, Lu Liang received a call from Tang Caidie. She told him that Zhang Chen had arrived.

“I’ll be right back.”

Lu Liang decided to park his car right at the door and called Tan Tao at the Peace Hotel to have him come and take the car away.

Earlier, he had also received a call from Li Yue. The transfer and registration procedures were all done, and now she was planning to drive the car over.

With the new car, he no longer needed to rent a vehicle.

In the elevator, Lu Liang parted ways with Meng Changkun.

When he returned to the office, he saw Zhang Chen and Shen Teng crouching on the floor, helping Chen Jinchun clean up discarded cardboard. They were very enthusiastic.

Tang Caidie smiled helplessly, as if saying, “I tried to stop them, but it didn’t work. Zhang Chen and Shen Teng insisted on helping.”

“Mr. Zhang, Mr. Shen, I apologize for the poor reception. Our company just opened yesterday, and we didn’t prepare well. Please forgive us,” Lu Liang said.

“Mr. Lu, don’t say that. It’s just that when I’m idle, I get restless. Since Mr. Zhang saw me helping, I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing,” Shen Teng replied with his usual comedic charm, his slight northeastern accent adding to the humor.

“Let’s go inside and talk.”

The 240-square-meter office of Tianxing Investments had only two partitions: one was Lu Liang’s office, and the other was the meeting room.

The group headed to the meeting room. Zhang Chen took out the prepared contract, and Tang Caidie was responsible for proofreading the details of the terms.

Half an hour later, after Tang Caidie had conducted the third round of review, she looked at Lu Liang and said, “Mr. Lu, the contract is fine, but there is one thing. I’m not sure if you’ve already looked into it.”

An additional clause had been added: if the film received good reviews and box office on its opening day, the Mahua team had the right to increase the publicity cost with the film distribution company, with a cap of 300% of the production cost.

They could choose to co-invest or not.

If they co-invested, the shareholding ratio would remain unchanged. If they chose not to invest, their shareholding ratio would be reduced according to the increase in cost.

Zhang Chen was worried that Lu Liang might misunderstand and hurriedly explained, “Mr. Lu, this additional clause is standard for all films.”

Though previous films didn’t have this clause, ever since Lost in Love 33 Days achieved 350 million RMB at the box office with just 5 million RMB in publicity, it had become a box office dark horse that ranked eighth in annual earnings.

Since then, industry professionals had realized that no matter how good a product is, if it doesn’t get proper publicity, it won’t succeed. Publicity has become just as important as the quality of the work itself.

“This is a good thing,” Lu Liang smiled. “I’m looking forward to the day when you increase the publicity cost to 60 million.”

Excluding films made for money laundering, the higher the future publicity cost, the greater the potential for box office success.

After all, the distributors aren’t fools.

“Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Lu.”

When Lu Liang signed his name, affixed the official seal, and instructed Tang Caidie to transfer the funds to the bank later, Zhang Chen’s anxious heart finally relaxed. They had gathered the last batch of funds, and next week they could officially start filming.

He felt like crying.

These past few days had been really tough.

As they were talking, Lu Liang’s phone rang again. It was Li Yue, letting him know she had arrived downstairs at Yongfeng Building.

“Okay, I’ll be right down,” Lu Liang replied. Zhang Chen, seeing this, said, “Mr. Lu, you go ahead and take care of things. We’ll head out first.”

“It’s fine. I’ll head down too and send you off,” Lu Liang said as he headed downstairs with Zhang Chen and Shen Teng.

As they exited the building, they witnessed a very stunning scene.

A young woman in office attire, with a figure that was in stark contrast to her innocent appearance. She walked confidently, with her chest pushed out, and the tight buttons on her shirt seemed as if they could pop open at any moment.

Beneath her short skirt, she had legs that could rival those of a professional model, wearing Valentino pointed shoes. Her calves were straight, and in those heels, her height was likely around 1.73 meters.

If it were any other day, she would certainly attract the attention of countless people wherever she went.

But now, she stood beside a Lamborghini, the yellow paint gleaming under the sunlight, its sharp, defined lines creating a strong visual impact.

The beautiful woman, standing next to the artwork, was almost insignificant.

When she saw Lu Liang, Li Yue beamed and jogged up to him, handing him the relevant documents and the car keys.

Lu Liang gave a slight nod, signaling for her to wait.

He turned to Zhang Chen and Shen Teng, “I’ve got to handle something else. I won’t send you off.”

“Alright, Mr. Lu, you’re busy. We’ll head out now,” Shen Teng said, still unable to take his eyes off the car. Zhang Chen pulled him into a taxi.

Shen Teng couldn’t help but turn around and glance back at the Lamborghini. “Lamborghini Urus, that’s gotta be at least 3 million.”

“Don’t be jealous. If our movie breaks 100 million at the box office, I’ll sponsor you 500,000,” Zhang Chen joked.

“Damn, can’t you think bigger? I thought you were going to give me a car,” Shen Teng said with a playful look.

“Even if we hit 100 million at the box office, how much would I really make? 500,000 is already pretty generous, bro,” Zhang Chen grumbled.

“Think big, broaden your horizons. How about setting a 1 billion box office target?” Shen Teng joked.

“If we really hit 1 billion, I’ll not only give you a Lamborghini, I’ll throw in a Rolls Royce too.”

“That’s what you said. I’m remembering this.”

“When we hit 1 billion at the box office, come get it from me.”

They shared a laugh, neither taking it seriously. After all, this was their company’s first film, and they just hoped to break even. If they made a small profit, that would be even better.

...

When Lu Liang was about to sign the papers, Li Yue playfully put her hand over the document and winked. “Mr. Lu, don’t you want to test drive it first? Just in case there’s an issue, you can give me feedback.”

Lu Liang looked her up and down, his eyes eventually landing on her tall heels. He smiled teasingly. “Did you come here alone?”

Li Yue gave him a playful look, her voice tinged with a bit of a coquettish tone. “Of course, I came alone. Who else would it be?”

“Can you even drive in those heels?” Lu Liang asked coldly, his eyes gleaming with mischief.

Li Yue was taken aback, quickly opening her bag and revealing a pair of flat sandals.

In her haste, she forgot that there was also a brand new pack of gum in her bag, its blue packaging turning pale purple in the sunlight.

Lu Liang smirked and got into the driver’s seat, waving for her to join him. “Let’s go for a drive and see how comfortable the car is.”

Hearing the word “comfortable,” Li Yue shot him a playful glare, seeming to blame him for scaring her earlier, before extending her long leg and getting into the car.

The V8 twin-turbocharged engine roared as it accelerated. In just 3.6 seconds per 100 km, the powerful pushback from the pedal felt just as intense as a sports car.

They left the city and entered the elevated highway. Lu Liang stepped on the accelerator, feeling the surge of power as they drove east, toward the coastline.

As they neared the East Sea, the traffic gradually decreased, and the Lamborghini Urus began to slow down.

“Mr. Lu, why did you bring me to such a remote place?”

Li Yue sounded worried, but she still stood tall, showing off her impressive figure.

“Out here in the wilderness, a man and a woman alone. What do you think?” Lu Liang smiled, keeping his gaze straight ahead while his other hand rested on her smooth thigh, slowly moving upward, feeling the fabric of her clothing.

Reaching her chest, he touched the tightly buttoned shirt, and with one push, the button popped off, revealing her curves.

“Mr. Lu, be careful.”

The car sped away from the main road, entering a country dirt road.

The vehicle stopped, the suspension lifted, and began to rock rhythmically...

By the time the sun began to set, the sunroof cracked open a small gap.

Li Yue opened her phone’s flashlight and took out a wet wipe, carefully cleaning up the mess, her nose glistening with fine sweat.

“Mr. Lu, this is a brand-new car.”

She shot him a playful look before checking everything again. Finally, she removed the torn stockings, rolled them up, and put them in her bag.

“So what?” Lu Liang tilted his head to gaze at the stars above.

With one hand on the wheel, the other gripping something far more significant.

“It’s strange. Every time I see you, I feel a special connection,” Li Yue said, holding onto his arm.

“Me too. Now that I think about it, you really remind me of my ex-girlfriend,” Lu Liang laughed, playing along.

“Really? I kind of felt that way too. Does this mean we have a special connection?” Li Yue asked with a smile.

“Of course,” Lu Liang said, holding her, and they rested in the car for a while before heading back.

Back in the city, as they reached Li Yue’s residential complex, she took out the receipt and said, “Mr. Lu, if there are any follow-up surveys, remember to leave me a good review. And if you need another car in the future, you can contact me.”

“No problem,” Lu Liang smiled. He had always respected hard-working and ambitious young women.
