It was time for Nick to unveil his upgraded abilities.
There was a lot to go through, and the upgrades were quite significant.
In fact, it was difficult for Nick to believe how much he had improved with just a single advancement.
His new ability to transform his body was already powerful on its own, but with the upgrade to his other abilities, it was like he underwent an earth-shattering transformation.
"First, a significant weakness of my main ability has been eliminated, allowing us to talk without any fear," Nick said.
Ghosty and the Technician were interested.
"Right now, I know I am being perceived, but I can also feel who is perceiving me. I can feel you two looking at me, and I can feel your positions without opening my eyes."
"As long as anyone is perceiving me, I can feel from where they are perceiving me. Additionally, thanks to that, I can also tell how many people are perceiving me," Nick explained.
While Ghosty found this to be quite powerful, only the Technician realized how useful this was.
They had always needed to be careful that the Champion of Light wasn't currently looking at them whenever they were talking. But now, in case the Champion of Light looked at them, Nick could just switch the topic or stop someone from talking.
"You can find the Corruptors and the Trio of Destruction with that," the Technician said quietly, almost like he was fearing that someone overheard him.
Nick nodded. "I don't think I will be able to find out their location if I talk to them via a Greater Relay, but as long as they are looking at me with their physical bodies, I should be able to feel their presence."
The Technician's heart raced.
"So, you could also find Death if you leave the headquarters?" he asked.
"I should be able to," Nick confirmed with a nod.
This was terrifyingly useful.
The biggest issue had always been finding the powerful Specters.
But with Nick, they could tell where they were.
The Technician furrowed his brows in discomfort.
Sure, this sounded amazing, but they couldn't really use this ability.
The reason was that Nick's primary ability had a significant weakness and that they had to keep it secret.
If they told the Champion that they could find the powerful Specters with Nick's help, the Champion would get wary of Nick's power.
Nick's power was vastly beyond what a normal Demon could do.
It would show that Nick was extraordinary.
"We might be able to deal with the Envious Researcher with that ability," Ghosty said. "The biggest issue is always finding it. If we know where to strike, we might be able to fight it."
"It's not that easy," the Technician said. "The Envious Researcher is most likely a Peak Adversary. It's as powerful as Death, and it is incredibly good at escaping. We might be able to fight it more efficiently, but we won't be able to truly deal with it."
"Additionally, Nick's power is predicated on the fact that the enemy is perceiving him, putting him in danger as well."
Ghosty shrugged. "Well, you have to put yourself in danger for humanity, right? We are all fighting for humanity with our lives on the line. Not using this ability would be wasteful."
"Yes, probably," the Technician answered.
However, deep down, he knew that they couldn't possibly risk Nick's life that easily.
Only the Left Arm, the Technician, and the Knife knew of Nick's true value.
They would much rather risk all Shields instead of risking Nick.
Sadly, he couldn't tell Ghosty.
"My next upgrade concerns my mist ability," Nick said, changing the topic.
The next moment, Nick's body was covered in a cloud of black smoke, which was about three meters in diameter.
The two of them looked with interest at Nick.
"It barely costs any Zephyx to keep the smoke active, and while it is active, you can't find my precise location. While my ability isn't fully active, it is running at around half its efficiency, meaning I am 2.5 times stronger than without it."
"Like this, I don't lose access to all of my powers if an enemy finds me," Nick explained.
The two realized that this was also significant.
Nick wouldn't be completely helpless anymore.
"Very useful," the Technician commented.
Ghosty nodded in agreement.
"Have all your abilities been improved by that much?" he asked.
"Well, not all of them," Nick said. "For example, my light ability has not been upgraded by that much."
Nick pointed at the wall.
BANG!
A bright beam shot out of his finger and hit the wall.
"You can shoot lasers?" the Technician asked in surprise.
"Yes, but the lasers aren't very powerful. They can't compare to my other attacks. At most, with my primary ability active, I can only kill a Peak Specialist with that," Nick explained.
"Only?" Ghosty repeated with a couple of surprised blinks.
Being able to instantly kill a Peak Specialist from kilometers away with a silent attack moving at lightspeed was considered weak?
"In Nick's case, the word only seems appropriate," the Technician said with an awkward smile as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Technically," Nick said, "my improvement is not firing lasers but the ability to focus my light to a certain degree. I will most likely not use it to attack an enemy but to blind them while using less Zephyx."
The two nodded.
Made sense.
"My ability from the Nightmare improved in two aspects," Nick said. "First, my efficiency in creating illusions has increased. I use about half of what I used previously. It won't be useful in most cases, but when things become serious, it can probably save my life."
The two nodded.
Zephyx efficiency was always good to improve.
"Next…"
WHOOOM!
Dark clouds exploded out of Nick and covered most of the walls in the room.
Nick only covered his side of the room, leaving the other side uncovered.
When the two of them looked at the clouds, they realized that they were very different from Nick's usual mist.
They seemed almost solid, and they seemed to stick to whatever they touched.
And what was the point of that?
Well, the sticky clouds absorbed all light.
"These clouds absorb all the light they touch," Nick said. "While I'm not able to cover the Sun with that, I can darken an entire hall."
At that point, some light reached Nick again.
"Sadly, they vanish rather quickly. Within less than two seconds, they disappear, and it costs a significant amount of Zephyx to use them."
However, this ability was still more than just useful.
With this ability, Nick had essentially become a human-killer!
As long as he was in the same room with another human, he could force them to become subject to the Nightmare's ability, which was something that almost no human could resist.
The only ones able to resist had abilities that created light or had gadgets that created light.
However, even in that case, they still needed to dedicate some time and Zephyx to use them, giving Nick an opportunity to strike.
"My Maw ability also improved in two aspects," Nick said. "First, my improved perception is now also active even if I am being perceived."
The two scientists had become quite shocked by now.
Nick's abilities sure had improved a lot!
"I can't show you the second improvement since it needs my ability to be active to show you. The second improvement is that I might forego the entry portal. Instead of having to touch something solid to travel through the maw, I can just create the exit portal and immediately travel there."
"Sadly, the exit portal hasn't changed, and the requirements for using it are the same. Additionally, if I use my ability like that, I have to use a significant amount of Zephyx. I have to use almost 30% of it," Nick explained.
"That's still crazy," the Technician said.
"It is," Nick said. "These are all my improvements. If we include my new ability to change my body,I am essentially no longer the same."
The two of them had to agree.
Nick's upgrade was crazy!
Neither of them knew anyone with a comparably versatile and complex toolkit.
He could sense who was sensing him, could cloud his body in smoke, focus his light, and could create dark clouds that absorbed light. His sensing abilities were no longer restricted to his primary ability, his power to create illusions had become more efficient, and he could instantly transport his body to the exit portal.
To top it all off, Nick could transform into anyone and could use human technology again.
All his weaknesses had been made less significant with his advancement.
While his attacking power hadn't increased in the slightest, his stealth capabilities and survival had been boosted immensely.
Nick didn't need to increase his offensive powers.
His attacks were already terrifying enough.
One could say that Nick improved in the best possible way.
Nick's survival was the most important, and his abilities had all fully focused on that.
In essence, Nick's entire life had become much easier with his advancement.
